Torah Day School is an Orthodox Jewish JK–Grade 12 school located in Ottawa. We are a trilingual school that provides a strong General Studies program that meets or exceeds the Ontario curriculum, along with a rigorous Judaic Studies program.

Position

Position: Part-Time Grade 1 Teacher

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Employment Type: Part-Time

Duties and Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver engaging lessons based on the Ontario Grade 1 curriculum
- Prepare lesson plans and learning activities that support students' academic and social development
- Teach core subjects including literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies as appropriate
- Assess, monitor, and document student learning and progress
- Provide individual and small-group support to students as needed
- Create a positive, safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
- Adapt lessons and activities to meet different learning styles, abilities, and needs
- Work collaboratively with Educational Assistants, Student Support Workers, Judaic Studies teachers, and other members of the school team




- Communicate regularly with parents and administration regarding student progress and development
- Participate in the development and implementation of Student Success Plans and Personal Learning Plans, when required
- Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other school activities as needed
- Maintain classroom routines and promote positive behaviour and respectful interactions
- Follow school policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Be comfortable transitioning to an online learning environment if the school needs to temporarily close

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Education with qualifications in the Primary/Elementary sector
- OCT certification is preferred
- Experience teaching Grade 1 or working with elementary-aged children is preferred
- Good understanding of the Ontario elementary curriculum, particularly Grade 1 literacy and mathematics
- Robust classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative teaching team
- Vulnerable Sector Check required
