The Aqua Fitness Instructor plays a crucial role in delivering safe, high-quality aquatic fitness programs for the Town of East Gwillimbury by planning, organizing, and teaching high quality classes according to the certifying agency’s expectations. This position emphasizes effective communication, excellent customer service, and serving as a role model for the public.

The Aqua Fitness

Instructor supports the participants’ fitness and wellness throughout the duration of the fitness class. Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics & Fitness, within the Parks, Recreation and Culture Department, this role fosters a secure, inclusive, and engaging experience for all participants.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

- Manage classes through appropriate formations, teaching spaces, and group control.
- Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies,



Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff, including Aquatic Procedures, Lifesaving Society Instructor Expectations, etc.
- Attend regularly scheduled in-service training programs and meetings, maintain certifications, skills and fitness levels.
- Promote a good public image that represents the Town of East Gwillimbury by acting as a role model to the general public and staff by maintaining outstanding customer service practices, demonstrating health regulations and aquatic procedures.
- Plan, organize and instruct classes for all ages and abilities.
- Create and maintain a secure, clean and comfortable environment for participants.
- Ensure group fitness equipment is cleaned after each class and identify and report maintenance and repairs to equipment as required to the Supervisor, Aquatics & Fitness.

*Note: All work activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety Policies and Procedures. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition. Experience & Qualifications:

- Demonstrated work experience in delivering and instructing a variety of aqua fitness or fitness classes.




- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification (WSIB approved).
- Canfitpro or equivalent Fitness certification required.
- Strong customer service, oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Strong adaptability and problem-solving skills to meet diverse participant needs and respond effectively to unexpected challenges during classes.
- Ability to create an inclusive environment that respects the diverse needs and backgrounds of participants and their families.
- Ability to work flexible shifts including days, evenings, and weekends including extended and abnormal hours.
- Due to the nature of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) satisfactory to the Town is required.

Hourly Rate: $37.65
