Allied has a current health and safety plan and we are COR certified with the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association. We expect the highest standard of safety, not only from our employees, but our subcontractors and suppliers as well. We believe that through planning, training, engagement, and continued vigilance, we can ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for promoting and ensuring effective health and safety practices on our construction sites and head office location. This role involves assessing risks, developing safety protocols, training employees, and ensuring compliance with NLCSA's COR program and the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
This position is open to both experienced safety professionals and recent graduates.
Candidates entering the field will work directly with the Safety Manager and receive structured mentorship and support while building site experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Continue effective operation of Allied's current health and safety program.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments.
- Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures, in coordination with the Safety Manager.
- Coordinate with and assist site supervisors with ongoing safety requirements (toolbox talks, etc.).
- Provide and arrange as necessary, safety orientation for new subcontractors; ensure subcontractors provide documentation and maintain safety standards as required by regulatory bodies and Allied Construction, and that our safety plan is followed.
- Monitor compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.
- Provide training and support to workers on safety practices.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, providing reports and recommendations.
- Liaise with Service NL's Occupational Health and Safety Division, ensuring all safety standards are met.
- Maintain safety records and documentation.
Qualifications — Required:
- A degree, diploma, or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- Working knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador's Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to address safety concerns directly with workers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in recordkeeping.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to active project sites.
Qualifications — Assets:
- Experience in health and safety within the construction industry, at any level. A combination of education and field experience will be considered.
- Professional certification or designation such as NCSO or CSO — or active progress toward one. Candidates who are eligible to begin working toward a designation are encouraged to apply.
- Familiarity with the NLCSA COR program.
- Experience with digital safety management platforms.
- Standard First Aid & CPR certification.
