The Health Care Aide in Neurosciences program participates in the delivery of quality patient care by performing services necessary for the physical and emotional wellbeing and comfort of the patient.

Attendant duties include assisting with bathing, feeding, transferring, lifting and portering patients.

Attendants may be asked to deliver specimens to labs, order supplies, clean and maintain unit equipment, monitor unit tidiness including equipment and storage rooms.

Physical requirements include long periods of standing, walking and lifting.

The Unit

Manager supervises the position and the Charge Nurse and other team members provide general direction for specified duties.

Description

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.

Required Qualifications

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications

Active registration with CLHA. Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide directory.

Current Basic Life

Support (BCLS-HCP)-Healthcare Provider registration required. The candidate must have the physical capability to perform all aspects of the role, including the ability to lift up to and including 50lbs. Ability to function effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team required. The position required strong communication and organizational skills and must be committed to patient and family centered care. This position services the units in Neurosciences Program.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic computer skills, as well as familiarity with medical terminology is preferred. Neurosciences experience preferred.
