Your Opportunity
As a Health Care Aide (HCA) - Nursing Attendant, you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Description
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a cooperative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing.
Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.
PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications
Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered.
Current Basic Cardiac Life
Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Must the able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on this very busy, fast-paced Pulmonary unit.
Must be able to work within posted position rotation and shifts. Must be able to push, pull and lift at least 50 lbs. Basic computing skills required. Must possess excellent communication and time management skills.
Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment. Able to demonstrate knowledge of infection prevention and control guidelines and procedures. If successful, must review and sign off on updated HCA duties and expectations within the Medicine Program.
Preferred Qualifications
Connect Care training preferred. Greater than 2 years in acute care medicine, preferred.
