Position Overview
KCC is seeking a passionate and committed Health Care Assistant (HCA) Instructor (Theory & Clinical) to join our team. Reporting to the Regional Director, the successful candidate will deliver theory and practical instruction, coordinate and supervise clinical experiences, and support students in achieving the required learning outcomes in accordance with the HCA curriculum and KCC standards.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM – 9:30 PM
- Hours: 32 hours per week (30 hours teaching + 2 hours preparation and marking)
- Structure: Online Theory, followed by in-person Lab and Clinical components on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction aligned with the approved HCA curriculum and KCC policies and procedures.
- Supervise students during multi-level and complex care practicum placements, providing clinical instruction, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
- Prepare and maintain course outlines, lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning resources in collaboration with the academic team.
- Develop, administer, and evaluate quizzes, assignments, examinations, and clinical assessments in accordance with program requirements.
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, evaluations, and grades, and enter information into the Learning Management System (LMS) in a timely manner.
- Provide academic guidance and qualified mentorship while maintaining appropriate instructor–student boundaries.
- Participate in curriculum reviews, program development, and quality assurance initiatives to support compliance with current industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and educational training as required by PTIRU and KCC.
- Respond promptly and professionally to student and faculty communications through the College’s official communication channels.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and a supportive learning environment at all times.
- Perform other instructional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess
- Current, unrestricted registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners through one or more of the following:
- Completion of the Provincial Instructor Diploma (PIDP) or equivalent instructional training; or
- Previous post-secondary teaching experience supported by satisfactory references or performance evaluations.
- A minimum of two years (2,800 hours) of full-time Canadian nursing experience, including:
- Knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system;
- Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of interdisciplinary healthcare teams; and
- Current practices and procedures in residential and community care settings.
- Completion of Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility training, such as San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or an equivalent program.
- Completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course through LearningHub, or willingness to complete the course during onboarding.

Pay: $32.00-$38.00 per hour
