The District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board supports individuals in need throughout our communities by delivering Children’s Services, Paramedic Services, Ontario Works, and Housing Services through the effective use of available resources and in the best interest of the individuals we support. Salary and Hours of work: $28.33 - $33.37 per hour (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday)
In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of assigned DTSSAB housing properties while building positive relationships with residents. As one of the primary points of contact for tenants, you will play an important role in responding to concerns, supporting residents, and helping create a comfortable and well-maintained living environment.
Work assignments are primarily in the Kirkland Lake area. Occasional travel within the district will be required to provide coverage during staff absences or other assignments. Whenever possible, schedules will be communicated in advance.
What you’ll do
§ Build positive relationships with tenants through professional, respectful and courteous interactions
§ Respond to routine tenant questions, requests, and concerns in a timely, person-centered manner
§ Clean and maintain building interiors, exteriors, including common areas, entrances, hallways, walkways, washrooms, windows
§ Perform seasonal property maintenance with manual tools and power equipment: snow removal, lawn care, groundskeeping
§ Manage garbage and recycling areas and maintain equipment, such as washers, dryers, ventilation systems
§ Conduct routine building and equipment inspections, fire alarm testing and emergency lighting and safety system checks
§ Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, vandalism, damage and unusual occurrences
§ Perform minor maintenance and repair work: carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs (up to 110 volts), smoke alarm replacement
§ Serve as an on-site contact for contractors and occasionally liaise with emergency services when required
§ Respond to occasional afterhours calls during evenings, weekends, and holidays and assist with other property-related duties
Qualifications and experience
§ A minimum of two (2) years of related experience in custodial services, janitorial work, groundskeeping, property maintenance, or a similar role involving regular interaction with the public
§ Experience performing minor maintenance and repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks
§ Enhanced carpentry skills relating to flooring and/or cabinetry installation, framing, drywalling or other are considered an asset
§ Safe work practices and understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, WHMIS, building systems, fire safety
§ Good computer skills and general office technology knowledge
§ Education or training in a maintenance or trades-related program is considered an asset
§ An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
§ Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset

§ Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, using sound judgment to recognize when issues require escalation
§ Able to organize, prioritize competing demands, manage responsibilities, and consistently complete work in a timely manner
§ Skilled at engaging with individuals with varying needs, from diverse backgrounds, or experiencing challenging life circumstances, in a respectful, compassionate and non-judgmental manner that contributes to positive, trusting and professional relationships
§ Listens actively, shows empathy,
communicates clearly and responds appropriately and sensitively to resolve routine concerns or de-escalate difficult situations – while balancing tenant needs with organizational policies and procedures
§ Strong collaboration abilities to work successfully with colleagues and supervisors
§ Effective conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
§ Practical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
§ Attention to detail and proactive approach to support tenant needs, address issues and ensure the effective delivery of services
Must be able and willing to
§ Travel daily within the service area and occasionally to Larder Lake, Englehart, Elk Lake, New Liskeard, Haileybury, and Cobalt
§ Maintain a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
§ Participate in rotating on-call schedule and respond to after-hours calls within 30-minutes, either by phone or as required
§ Perform physically demanding work, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying supplies, completing outdoor maintenance tasks in varying weather conditions
