What You’ll Do
Hydrovac Excavation Support
- Assist Hydrovac Operators with daylighting, potholing, slot trenching, and excavation activities exposing underground utilities including gas, power, telecommunications, water, and other buried infrastructure.
- Safely handle vacuum hoses, water hoses, tools, and support equipment.
- Act as a spotter during excavation activities and equipment movement.
- Monitor excavation areas for hazards, utility conflicts, and changing site conditions.
- Support crews during utility installation and maintenance activities.
· Assist with site setup, traffic control, and work zone preparation.
- Load, unload, organize, and maintain tools, materials, and equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional work sites.
- Remove debris and excess materials from excavation areas.
- Prepare equipment and materials for upcoming work assignments.
- Assist Operators with daily equipment inspections and maintenance checks.
- Help maintain hydrovac trucks, hoses, tools, and support equipment in safe working condition.
- Report equipment deficiencies, damage, or safety concerns immediately.
- Perform routine housekeeping to ensure equipment remains clean and professional.
- Follow all PTL safety policies, procedures, and client-specific requirements.
- Participate in daily hazard assessments, tailgate meetings, and job safety analyses.
- Assist with grounding and bonding procedures when required.
- Maintain awareness of overhead and underground utility hazards at all times.
- Complete required paperwork and safety documentation accurately and on time.
- Attend work fit for duty and maintain a positive, professional attitude.
What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, safety-minded and comfortable working in a physically demanding outdoor construction environment.
- Knowledge of underground utility construction practices is an asset.
- Knowledge of Ground Disturbance regulations and secure excavation practices is an asset.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a crew and take direction
- Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding work.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs (23 kg) regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions, including: Hot summer days working in direct sun, Rainy and wet spring condition, Cold, snowy and winter conditions.
- Ability to work around trenches, excavations, confined spaces, and active construction sites.
- Ability to work in moderate to high noise environments.
- Ability to work overtime, extended shifts, and weekends as required.
- Capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
- CSTS 2020
- Ground Disturbance Level II
- Legal Authorization to work in Canada.
- Previous construction, utility, hydrovac swamper, labourer, or civil construction experience is considered an asset.
- Class 3 License with Air Brake (Q) endorsement is considered a strong asset. For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to receive additional training and develop into a Hydrovac Operator role.
Schedule & Compensation $20.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience.
Full-time, permanent position. Day, night, overtime, on-call and occasional weekend work may be required depending on project needs.
Travel to project sites throughout British Columbia may also be required.
First Aid/CPR, H2S Alive, Confined Space and Equipotential Grounding & Bonding certifications are considered assets.
