Axiom Machinery – Cambridge, Ontario
Full time | Base Salary + Uncapped Commission
Expected total compensation: $100,000–$140,000+
Axiom Machinery is looking for an experienced industrial salesperson for is MetalPress Machinery division who knows how to create opportunities—not merely wait for leads to arrive.
At MetalPress Machinery we supply presses, press brakes, die-handling equipment, temperature-control units and other specialized machinery to manufacturers throughout Canada and the United States. Our customers include metal stampers, fabricators, mould and die companies, automotive suppliers and other industrial manufacturers.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys opening doors, visiting manufacturing plants, learning how equipment works and developing current customers over a longer, consultative sales cycle.
You do not need to know every MetalPress machine on your first day. We will provide product training and technical support. However, you must be comfortable discussing industrial equipment, asking technical questions and learning how our machinery solves real production problems.
This Is a New-Business Development Position
This is not primarily an account-management or order-taking role.
You will be expected to identify prospective customers, contact decision-makers, arrange meetings, uncover equipment requirements and develop opportunities from the initial conversation through quotation and closing.
If you are energized by finding new customers, building relationships from the ground up and pursuing substantial capital-equipment opportunities, we would like to meet you.
What You Will Do
- Proactively identify manufacturers that could benefit from MetalPress equipment
- Prospect by telephone, email, LinkedIn, industry research, networking and plant visits
- Contact owners, plant managers, engineers, production managers, maintenance managers and purchasing personnel
- Ask intelligent questions to uncover production problems, equipment requirements and future projects
- Arrange customer meetings, plant visits, equipment demonstrations and technical discussions
- Develop new opportunities for presses, press brakes, die-handling systems, temperature-control units and related industrial machinery
- Work with our technical team to determine the appropriate equipment and specifications
- Prepare and present quotations and commercial proposals
- Follow up consistently throughout longer capital-equipment sales cycles
- Negotiate commercial terms and help move qualified opportunities toward purchase orders
- Maintain accurate prospect, activity, quotation and pipeline information in our CRM
- Attend selected trade shows, industry events and customer meetings
- Develop long-term relationships that lead to repeat business, referrals and additional equipment sales
The Person We Are Looking For You are persistent without being aggressive. You are curious enough to understand how a customer’s operation works and confident enough to contact people you have never met.
Most importantly, you have personally created new business. You can describe how you identified a prospective customer, obtained the first meeting, developed the chance and ultimately closed the sale.
You should have:
- Proven success in B2B industrial, technical or capital-equipment sales
- Demonstrated ability to generate opportunities through your own prospecting
- Experience selling to manufacturers, industrial companies or technically oriented customers
- Mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in machinery and manufacturing
- The ability to understand technical information and explain it clearly
- Strong telephone, written communication and face-to-face presentation skills
- The discipline to follow up consistently over sales cycles that may take several months
- Experience managing opportunities and activities in a CRM
- Good organization, time management and territory-planning skills
- A valid driver’s licence and the ability to visit customer facilities
- The ability to travel within Ontario and occasionally elsewhere in Canada or the United States
Relevant Industry Experience Direct experience with MetalPress products is helpful, but it is not required.
We are interested in candidates who have sold products such as:
- Machine tools or metal-fabrication equipment
- Press brakes, lasers, presses or cutting equipment
- Industrial automation, robotics or controls
- Material-handling or die-handling equipment
- Hydraulic or pneumatic systems
- Welding equipment or metalworking supplies
- Tooling, dies, moulds or production equipment
- Furnaces, pumps, motors or process equipment
- Forklifts, cranes or other industrial machinery
A mechanical, electrical, manufacturing or engineering background is an asset. However, proven prospecting ability and industrial sales success are more important than having a particular degree.
What MetalPress Provides

- Realistic total annual earnings of approximately $100,000–$140,000+ for a successful representative
- Technical and product training

- Marketing materials, existing customer information and sales tools

We are not looking for polished sales jargon. We want to see how you research, think, communicate, handle objections and create genuine opportunities.
