Kaizen Safety Group is currently seeking a Rope Rescue Specialist to join our Red Deer, Edmonton & Grande Prairie, Operating areas. This role is critical to ensuring that all equipment supporting field operations is compliant with regulatory requirements, aligned with company standards, and fully operational in high-demand industrial environments.
The Rope Rescue Specialist is a highly skilled professional responsible for executing emergency rescue operations in challenging and high-risk environments, including elevated structures, confined spaces, and hazardous terrains. This role demands advanced technical expertise, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to perform under pressure. The Specialist will be a key member of the emergency response team, ensuring safe and efficient rescue operations while adhering to established safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
· Respond to emergency situations occurring in settings such as cliffs, tall structures, towers, bridges, or confined spaces necessitating vertical rescue operations.
· Perform an immediate assessment of the situation to identify potential hazards, establish the safest course of action, and formulate a strategic plan for executing the rescue operation.
· Operate ropes, harnesses, pulleys, ascenders, descenders, and other gear designed for high-angle rescue to ensure the protected execution of operations.
· Participate in regular drills and training exercises to maintain proficiency in rescue practices, equipment usage, and safety protocols.
· Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of rescue gear to verify its cleanliness, functionality, and readiness for deployment.
· Maintain detailed records of rescue incidents for official reports and subsequent analysis.
· Assess risks and create comprehensive rescue plans tailored to specific scenarios.
· Work collaboratively with other rescue team members and emergency services to ensure successful operations.
· Coordinate communications across internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders to align goals and deliverables.
· Maintain and update project documentation including rescue plans, daily paperwork, and equipment logs.
· Monitor resource allocation, ensuring sufficient personnel and equipment for project success.
· Identify, address, and escalate operational issues, delivering effective solutions.
· Ensure compliance with company policies, OH&S; regulations, and applicable legislative requirements.
· Mentor and coach personnel including supervisors, coordinators, and technical teams to uphold high standards.
· Accurately complete field tickets, capturing all equipment and personnel costs.
· Ensure all team members adhere to safety standards and protocols during high angle rescues.
· Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to prevent hazards.
· Maintain situational awareness to adapt to changing conditions and potential risks.
Qualifications
· NFPA- Compliant Rope Rescue Certification (e.g., NFPA 1006)
· Preferred 2-5 years’ experience in industrial environments such as oil and gas, with direct high-angle rescue experience
· Familiarity with Industry Recommended Practices (IRPs), NFPA Guidelines and applicable local, provincial, and federal safety regulations
· Standard safety certifications: H2S Alive, First Aid, CSO, Fall Protection, etc.

· Demonstrate a keen aptitude for identifying risks, evaluating environments, and anticipating potential complications during rescue operations.
· Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and other emergency responders.
· Clear communication abilities to relay instructions and updates during rescue operations.
· Leadership qualities to guide rescue teams and coordinate efforts efficiently.
· Capability to debrief and report accurately after rescue missions.
