Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director, Manager or designate, the Nurse Informaticist (NI) leads and promotes the integration of computer and communications technologies and clinical change initiatives that automate and/or enhance evidence-based clinical practices, access to patient/client information, and clinical documentation via the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and/or Electronic Health Information System in collaboration with clinical operational leaders, service, program, staff, and physicians.
As an integral regional member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Nurse Informaticist works to develop and redesign workflow and processes to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of Island Health. The Nurse Informaticist partners closely with front-line clinicians and local quality structures to assess practice, identify barriers, and ensure digital tools and workflows are effectively integrated to enable high-quality, safe, and efficient care across Island Health.
Travel may be a requirement of this position.
Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience
Graduation from a recognized nursing program or evidence of an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; and
Current practicing registration as a RN with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives; and
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
Positions in Advanced Electronic Health Record & Health Information Management and EHR & PracticeOptimization require three (3) years' recent related experience in a health care environment, includingexperience using related computer technology, clinical informatics, clinical change management, and/or projectleadership.
Positions in Population and Public Health require three (3) years' recent related experience in a Population and Public Health environment, including experience using related computer technology, clinical informatics, clinical change management, and/or project leadership.

Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
This role involves supporting operational readiness activities, quality assurance and quality control activities, systems configuration, and knowledge transfer between clinical, informatics, and technical teams. Key responsibilities include leading onsite clinical workstation validation and testing, co-leading systems testing, and participating in user group engagements. The position requires increasing onsite presence as we approach the 2027 move-in, particularly in the final six months. The Nurse Informaticist will report to the Senior Specialist on the IMIT Workstream and will work on both sides of the engagement – in Operational Readiness and in Alliance. Alliance is a collaborative framework where multiple invested parties come together to deliver a project, sharing responsibilities, risks, and rewards to achieve common objectives efficiently as related to constructing a new site.A first in Canada: minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) are here in BC! Island Health, alongside BC's other health authorities, is implementing mNPRs as a transformative staffing initiative that aims to improve the working environment of nurses in order to provide better quality care to our patients.
