Job Summary

St. John Ambulance BC & Yukon is seeking experienced and engaging Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Instructor to join our team of contract educators.

This opportunity is ideal for EMRs, Primary Care Paramedics, Advanced Care Paramedics, and other healthcare professionals who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and helping students develop the skills required to provide emergency medical care in a variety of settings.

As an Independent Contractor, you will be responsible for delivering EMR certification and recertification programs in accordance with established course standards and regulatory requirements.

Instructors play a critical role in creating an engaging learning environment that combines theory, practical skills, and scenario-based training.

Course assignments are offered throughout the year and may vary in frequency depending on organizational demand, instructor availability, and regional training needs.

This position is not an employment relationship. Successful candidates will enter into an Independent Contractor Agreement and will be compensated on a per-course basis.

Duties

As an EMR Instructor, you will:

- Deliver Emergency Medical Responder courses in accordance with approved curriculum and instructional standards.
- Facilitate classroom, practical skills, and scenario-based training sessions.
- Evaluate student knowledge and performance through written examinations, practical evaluations, and scenario assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback and coaching to support student success.




- Maintain accurate course records and submit required documentation within established timelines.
- Ensure all training equipment and instructional materials are used safely and appropriately.
- Foster a professional, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students and staff.
- Remain current with changes in emergency medical practices, instructional methodologies, and certification requirements.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess

Required

- Currently license as Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), Critical Care Paramedic (CCP), or Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) with BC EMALB.
- Current instructor certification recognized by an applicable certifying authority.
- Minimum 1 year experience with an ambulance service.
- Robust verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate adult learning and engage diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Preferred

- Previous experience teaching EMR, First Aid, or healthcare-related courses.
- Experience with classroom management and adult education principles.
- Additional certifications in first aid, emergency response, healthcare, or education.

Compensation

- Compensation is provided on a per-course basis.
- Approved travel expenses are reimbursed in accordance with SJA BCY policies.

Schedule and Availability

- EMR courses are scheduled several times throughout the year.
- Course schedules are determined based on organizational demand and client requirements.

Pay: $1,500.00 per week
