About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated Female Community Support Worker to join our Nelson Group Home team in NW Calgary .
In this role, you will support individuals with complex behaviors, mental health challenges, trauma, and developmental disabilities , helping them build independence and actively participate in the community.
Please note: Due to the personal care and safety needs of some individuals, this position requires a female support worker .
What You’ll Do
As a Community Support Worker, you will:
- Provide holistic support (medical, emotional, behavioural, physical, and environmental)
- Support individuals with conditions such as FASD, BPD, ADHD, schizophrenia, addiction, trauma, and mood disorders
- Follow individualized support plans to help individuals achieve their goals
- Assist with personal care , including hygiene and g-tube feeding (if required)
- Administer medications and documentation
- Accompany individuals to medical, legal, and community appointments
- Support individuals in daily activities, chores, and community engagement
- Maintain safe,
clean living environments
- Handle incident reports, fire drills, and hazard assessments
- Communicate with families, guardians, and external professionals
- Support individuals on Opioid Dependency Programs (ODP/OAT)
- Apply trauma-informed care and harm reduction practices
- Safely manage environments involving biohazards and substance use
- Respond confidently in crisis situations
Who You Are

- Experience or understanding of mental health, addiction, and complex behaviors
- Comfort working in fast-paced, high-needs environments
- Willingness to use PPE and follow infection control protocols
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- A proactive mindset—always learning, researching, and adapting
Schedule & Compensation
- Position: Permanent 40 hr
- Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Pay: $21 – $23/hour
Additional Benefits
- 4% vacation pay
- 6 flex days/year (after 3 months)
- Opportunities to pick up additional shifts
- Certificate/Diploma in Human Services, Disability Studies, or related field (or equivalent)
- Class 5 Driver’s License + reliable vehicle
- Minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance
- Ability to support individuals with complex needs
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year experience in human services, outreach, or group home settings
- Experience with trauma, addiction, and harm reduction
- Background in healthcare or medical field
- Current certifications:
- First Aid/CPR
- Medication Administration
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
- Abuse Prevention & Positive Behaviour Supports
