The Opportunity

McElhanney is seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Biologist to join our Langley, BC office. Supported by a team of more than 45 environmental professionals across the company, you will contribute to a diverse range of projects in the cities and communities, energy and resources, and transportation and transit sectors.

In this role, you will provide technical expertise and project leadership across a diverse range of environmental projects, supporting clients through all phases of project delivery. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, build strong client relationships, mentor junior staff, and contribute to practical environmental solutions that balance regulatory requirements and project objectives. Working with industry, Indigenous Nations, private-sector, and municipal clients, you will help develop practical environmental solutions that balance ecological stewardship, regulatory requirements, and project objectives.

What You’ll Do

- Lead and support environmental projects from proposal development through completion, including field investigations, data interpretation, and reporting.
- Manage small-scale environmental projects, including scope, budgets, schedules, resources, and client communications.
- Lead environmental assessments, habitat and riparian evaluations, permitting, regulatory approvals, and technical reporting.
- Provide practical environmental advice and solutions to support planning, design, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate regulatory approvals, permits, authorizations, wildlife salvage activities, and habitat mitigation or restoration measures.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, Indigenous Nations, and other project stakeholders.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams, coordinate subcontractors and specialty consultants, and mentor junior staff.




- Support business development through proposal preparation, client relationship management, and identifying new opportunities.

What You’ll Bring

- A passion for delivering sustainable environmental solutions within local communities.
- 6+ years of experience in environmental consulting, including proposal preparation, aquatic habitat assessments, permitting, and environmental reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecological Restoration, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- R.P.Bio. or R.B.Tech. designation in good standing.
- Proven ability to manage environmental projects from initiation through completion, including client management, team coordination, budgeting, scheduling, and delivery of quality outcomes that meet project objectives.
- Strong technical report writing, communication, and project coordination skills.
- Experience liaising with clients, Indigenous Nations, government agencies, and regulatory authorities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Possession of a valid BC Driver's License.

Nice-to-Have Skills And Experience

- Local knowledge of the Lower Mainland and municipal land development requirements.
- Specialization in fisheries and/or aquatic sciences.
- Electrofishing certification.
- Proficiency with GIS, ArcGIS, mobile data collection, and environmental data management systems.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary environmental assessments and permitting programs.

What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $85,000 – $120,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
