Clifton is currently searching for an Intermediate Environmental Professional, Engineer, Geoscientist, Geologist to join our Site Assessment and Remediation team. Ideally this candidate would be in Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, or Saskatoon, however Clifton is open to a remote candidate who is qualified and located elsewhere in Alberta or Saskatchewan. In this role, you will lead and manage soil and groundwater investigations and remediation programs, manage client expectations, write and professionally stamp technical reports and prepare proposals, support business development, train and mentor staff, and contribute to the success of our environmental projects and teams.
This role is intended for individuals with between five (5) and fifteen (15) years of experience executing, coordinating and managing contaminated sites assessment and remediation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting technical document reviews, interpreting environmental data and designing soil, groundwater and soil vapour assessments, delineation and remediation programs.
- Project Management of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, groundwater monitoring and sampling programs, soil vapour assessments and remediation programs including sub-contractor coordination, directing field staff, adhering to Clifton health and safety policies and following ground disturbance procedures.
- Acting as the day-to-day contact for clients in the overall technical and administrative management of their environmental projects.
- Liaising with regulators and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
- Leading project teams and providing technical oversight, direction and support to other Clifton professionals and technicians in relation to the execution of project-related office and field tasks.
- Preparing technical reports and proposals, performing peer reviews, stamping professional work products.
- Training staff in the proper execution of field tasks and the use of equipment.
- Supporting the groups business development activities.
- Adapting Clifton’s Quality Management System into project delivery.
- Other duties, as required.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or a related geoscience field.
- Currently registered as a Skilled Engineer, Geoscientist or Licensee with APEGA or APEGS, or a Qualified Environmental Professional registered with another related professional organization (e.g. suitably experienced Professional Biologist, Chemist or Agrologist), or similar skilled designation in another jurisdiction in Canada and eligible for professional designation status in Alberta or Saskatchewan.
- A minimum of five (5) to fifteen (15) years of direct experience in the field of contaminated sites assessment and management.
- Direct field experience conducting intrusive investigations including borehole drilling, soil sampling and logging, and groundwater monitoring well installation, development, monitoring and sampling; soil vapour probe installation and sampling experience is an asset.
- Experience managing project scope, schedule and budget and being the primary client contact for contaminated sites assessment projects.
- Experience as the primary report author of technical environmental site assessment reports including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II Environmental Stie Assessments, Risk Management Plans, Soil and Groundwater Management Plans, Soil Vapour Assessments, Groundwater Monitoring and Remediation.
- Strong interest in learning advanced environmental skills associated with soil, groundwater and soil vapour assessment methods, risk management, risk assessment and remediation.
- Strong organizational skills, including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, in the context of work/life balance.
- Ability to work independently and in teams on project assignments, and comfort delegating project tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Continued attention to safety and safe work environments, with a strong workplace safety orientation.
Physical Requirements
- Operate a pickup truck or van requiring a standard Class 5 Driver’s License to travel to project locations and transport equipment for sampling and testing at a variety of job sites.
- Lift, bend, and turn while being able to move samples and equipment from one place to another, in and out of vehicles, and around the project site.
- Work on uneven terrain and near large construction equipment.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions, sometimes for extended hours, and in remote locations.
