This role assists the Chief Cable Engineer or Jointer/Tester in all aspects of the cable jointing process.

Job Duties/Vessel Duties
- Assist in splice sub-sea fiber optic cables under minimum supervision using UJ/UQJ Technology plus other splicing techniques;
- Assists in testing using OTDR on sub-sea fiber optic cable;
- Assists in the operations of shore end landings;
- Assists in beach manhole splicing and testing;
- Keeps all splicing equipment in a ready to use condition;
- Keeps all splicing and testing area clean and ready for use;
- The Jointer performs any other duties within his capabilities;
- Whilst not in operations, s/he will conduct maintenance and other duties as assigned by Chief Cable Engineer. When all duties assigned by the CCE are complete, then the jointer may be assigned to other duties within the scope of his training and expertise. This other work shall be under the supervision of the Chief Officer or Chief Engineer, as determined by the Master.
- Consent to participate in IT’s Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental program, and abide by all regulations and guidelines therein.
Requirements
- Two to five years experience in subsea or terrestrial fibre cable network installation;
- Excellent communication skills required, both written and verbal;
- Excellent reading comprehension skills.
Vessel Requirements
- Marine Medical
- STCW Basic Safety Training
- Seaman’s Book
- Basic First Aid
- UJ/UQJ qualification Beneficial but not required
Work Conditions
- Halifax based position· Occasional international travel as per project requirements, valid passport required;
- Work days in field to extend to 12 hours per day;
- Manual dexterity required to use specialized equipment and tooling;
- Overtime as required.
