Hiring Junior Financial Analyst – Public Sector in Edmonton, Alberta

We are seeking a Junior Financial Analyst to support full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, financial analysis, and financial operations. This is a fully onsite opportunity in Alberta and is well suited for an early-career accounting/finance professional with strong Excel skills and experience working with financial data.

Position Details

Job Title: Junior Financial Analyst

Employment Type: Contract

Location: Edmonton, Alberta – Fully Onsite-Monday to Friday

8:15 AM – 4:30 PM Alberta time, 1-hour lunch break

Start Date: October 1st, 2026

End Date: March 31st, 2027 (with potential for extension)

Compensation : $25–$32/hour (depending on skills and experience)

Openings: Up to 2

About the Role The Junior Financial Analyst will support accounting and financial reporting activities, including month-end processes, account reconciliations, financial analysis, reporting, budgeting and forecasting support, and financial data validation.

The successful candidate will work with internal business partners to gather, analyze, and disseminate financial information while helping identify discrepancies and opportunities for process improvement.

Key Responsibilities :

- Prepare and process journal entries.
- Assist with month-end financial reporting and closing activities.
- Perform account and bank reconciliations.
- Support Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) activities.
- Assist with business partner maintenance and capital asset maintenance.




- Perform variance analysis and investigate financial abnormalities or discrepancies.
- Review and analyze accruals and trial balance accounts.
- Support collections and related financial activities.
- Analyze and interpret financial information.
- Use Microsoft Excel to analyze and validate financial data.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities by working with business entities to gather and disseminate financial information.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency.
- Support the team with diverse financial operations and other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications :

Education :

- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, IT, Computer Science, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
- Equivalent education and experience may also be considered.

Technical & Financial Skills

- Knowledge of accounting principles and Canadian public-sector accounting standards, or equivalent experience.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including tools such as:

- Pivot Tables
- VLOOKUP
- Financial data analysis
- Data validation and reconciliation

Experience

- 1+ year of experience creating and using advanced Excel functionality.




- 2+ years of experience working with financial transactions and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial data using Microsoft Excel.
- 2+ years of experience with:
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
- Account reconciliation
- Identifying and resolving financial errors/discrepancies
- 2+ years supporting diverse financial operations.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications :

- Currently pursuing a CPA designation.
- 2+ years of experience applying financial audit, financial controls, financial reconciliation, or financial systems governance principles to:
- Large-scale data migration
- Data conversion
- ERP implementation
- 1+ year of experience with SAP Finance (FI), including:
- Financial postings
- Invoice processing
- Integration with procurement
- Integration with supply chain processes

Contract & Security Requirements

- This is a net-new position.
