About the role

District is hiring a Junior Software Developer to join our software development team in Vancouver.

This is an early-career role for someone who wants to develop their technical skills while contributing to real products used across the music industry. You will work alongside experienced developers and internal stakeholders to build, improve, and maintain applications supporting digital video, music, and finance.

You will receive guidance through code reviews, technical discussions, and hands-on collaboration. As your skills grow, you will take on greater ownership of features and technical decisions.

What you’ll do

- Build and improve application features using JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js.
- Investigate bugs and implement fixes with support from experienced developers.
- Write clear, maintainable, and tested code.
- Work with MySQL or PostgreSQL databases to retrieve and update application data.
- Build and maintain user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and Vue.js.
- Support internal teams with scoped data requests and custom tools.
- Collaborate with content managers, account managers, label coordinators, and developers to understand requirements.
- Participate in code reviews, planning, testing, and technical discussions.
- Learn the team’s development practices, systems, and music-industry workflows.

What you bring

- A working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Familiarity with web development fundamentals, including HTML and CSS.
- Some experience building software through employment, internships, education, personal projects, or open-source contributions.




- An understanding of databases and basic SQL concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to ask questions.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- An interest in learning, receiving feedback, and working collaboratively.

Nice to have Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:

- Node.js
- Vue.js
- MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Automated testing
- Git and collaborative development workflows
- Cloud services or production web applications
- Music, media, finance, or data-heavy applications

You do not need to meet every qualification to apply. We value curiosity, sound judgment, and demonstrated growth as much as familiarity with a specific technology.
