ABOUT US
Kainaiwa Children's Services Corporation is a growing, agile First Nations organization providing programs and services to Blood Tribe children and families in need of support and protection so that they can become positive, healthy contributing members of our community; while maintaining KCSC's Vision, Mission Statements and incorporating Blood Tribe Traditions through "Kainayssini" the Declaration of the Elders of the Blood Indian Nation.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Blood Tribe Child Protection Services, the Generalist is responsible for case managing a file where a child requires intervention services as defined by the applicable legislation. The Generalist will be required to follow the polices, practices, and procedures as outlined by KCSC. The Generalist must be willing to work in a fast paced environment with flexible working hours, and to participate in the after-hours On-Call program.
This posting is for two openings within Unit G.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gather information through personal interviews and collateral contacts to determine the needs of a child.
- Negotiate goals and determine appropriate programs and services to meet the child and family's needs.
- Make referrals to support services and community resources.
- Attend court, preparing and presenting evidence.
- Provide a smooth transition for the child and family from Assessment to family enhancement services or protection services.
- Work with KCSC Programs as a support to families before tendering services outside the Corporation.
- Participate in the On Call/After Services program; complete necessary documentation after each On Call/After Services rotation by noon on Tuesdays, and maintain ongoing consultation with the On Call/After Hours Supervisor regarding the children and families involved.
- Maintain a reliable vehicle with two million dollars in liability passenger coverage, and make every effort to secure a company vehicle when completing home visits.
- Submit an annual Criminal Record Check and Intervention Services Information System Check, and any other documents at the request of BTCP Management, upon successful completion of the probation period.
- Maintain the strictest confidence when working with children and families.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Social Work Degree or diploma with direct experience is an asset, or a minimum of two years of related experience. A related Human Services discipline with three years of related experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of the applicable Child Welfare legislation, policies, First Nations Agreements, and Protocols.
- Excellent interviewing, assessment, and analytical skills is an asset.
- Delegation training would be an asset.
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient use of various computers and software.
- Knowledge of the Blackfoot Language and culture is an asset.
