As a key member of our team, you’ll play an important role in the day-to-day care and well-being of the animals in our shelter.

This is a hands-on position where you’ll work with animals throughout their time at Bide Awhile - from intake through to adoption. You’ll get to know their individual personalities, behaviours, and their needs - helping communicate that information to the rest of the team. Solid listening, communication, observation, and writing skills are important in this role.

The Position

This position requires a adaptable schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, work independently when required, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and manage frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

A valid driver's license is preferred, and access to a reliable vehicle would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

- Providing daily care for shelter animals, including feeding, medicating, and basic grooming.
- Monitoring animals closely and identifying signs of illness, injury, stress, or other concerns.
- Cleaning cages, equipment, and work areas to a high standard while following health, safety, and shelter protocols.
- Maintaining accurate records of animal health, medications, treatments,



procedures, behaviours, and other important information using our animal tracking software.
- Communicating observations and concerns to other members of the shelter team.
- Working effectively with co-workers, volunteers, adopters, and members of the public.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who:

- Is comfortable working with a wide variety of animals and animal behaviours.
- Is reliable, observant, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Has strong communication and organizational skills.
- Is comfortable with physical work, including lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Can remain calm and adaptable in a busy shelter environment.
- Is willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
