Job Summary
KGM offers engaging computer-based learning programs created specifically for children and teens and tailored to the ways they learn best. We are currently looking for enthusiastic, dependable, and energetic Instructors to join our team for upcoming recreation programs for children and youth throughout York Region, including Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, and Aurora.
Instructors deliver technology courses developed internally by KGM that introduce students to a variety of concepts and skills in math, science, engineering, coding, and art. KGM Instructors combine professionalism with a minimum of one year of experience teaching STEM-related programs. They also have a genuine interest in working with children and teenagers and are adaptable, patient, energetic, understanding, and ready to make learning enjoyable.
Our Instructors work closely with the Program Supervisor regarding program logistics and ongoing professional development.
The ideal KGM Instructor is well organized, takes initiative, and is comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team. The role requires strong critical-thinking abilities, careful attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must have a valid G-class driver’s license and access to a dependable vehicle capable of transporting course equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Use the curriculum, lesson materials, and resources supplied by KGM to provide students with an enjoyable, structured, and rewarding learning experience.
- Explain and teach important concepts through a range of instructional approaches, including hands-on learning, group activities, and other methods.
- Deliver lessons with enthusiasm, organization, and subject knowledge while supporting students as they complete an individual project and ensuring the class remains fun and engaging.
- Work collaboratively with, provide direction to, and supervise one or more Assistant Instructors and/or Volunteers who help create an excellent experience for students.
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Interact with students to ensure they remain safe, engaged, and are enjoying the program.
- Manage classroom setup and turnover, student sign-in and safe dismissal procedures, and the completion of all required documentation.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching STEM programs, preferably within an instructional or classroom environment.
- Previous experience teaching coding or science is required.
- Outgoing, self-assured, and comfortable presenting to and leading larger groups.
- Experience working with children or youth, including individuals with special needs.
- Energetic, patient, adaptable, and genuinely enjoy working with children.
- Able to learn quickly and willing to receive training on new technologies and software.
- Proficient with Google Workspace.
- Experience or knowledge in any of the following areas is considered an asset: Game Design & Development, Programming (Scratch, Python, etc.), 3D Modelling & Design, Computer Animation, Robotics, Virtual Reality, or App Development.
Note: Kids Outstanding Minds provides complete training as well as detailed lesson plans.
Requirements
- Valid G-class driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle capable of transporting course equipment.
- Current CPR-C / First Aid certification and HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification, to be completed 7–14 days before the program begins.
- Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) 7–14 days prior to the start date.
- Completion of all required online and in-person training, along with onboarding documentation, before the program begins.
Job Locations Kids Great Minds partners with municipalities throughout the GTA to deliver computer-based courses at community centres, libraries, and schools. We are currently looking for candidates who can work at various locations throughout Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, and Aurora.
Compensation
Hourly wage: From $21.00 to $23.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
