Mission Friendship Centre Society is seeking a reliable, organized, and community-minded Kitchen Coordinator to oversee the daily operation of our community kitchen and meal program. The successful candidate will coordinate meal preparation, maintain food safety standards, manage kitchen supplies, and work alongside staff and volunteers to provide nutritious meals to community members.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily meal preparation and kitchen operations.
- Plan menus, food purchasing and inventory management.
- Prepare and serve nutritious, culturally appropriate meals.
- Ensure proper food handling, storage, sanitation, and cleaning procedures.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Monitor food supplies and minimize waste.
- Coordinate and provide direction to kitchen volunteers.
- Maintain accurate records related to meals, supplies, and food costs.
- Follow all applicable food safety, workplace safety, and organizational policies.
- Support special events, community meals, and cultural activities as required.
- Work respectfully with Indigenous community members, Elders, families, and individuals experiencing barriers to accessing food and other services.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a commercial, community, or institutional kitchen is preferred.
- FoodSafe certification required or willingness to obtain.
- Robust organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a busy, high-volume environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with vulnerable or diverse populations is an asset.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and communities is an asset.
- Valid First Aid certification is an asset.
