As a member of the Streets department, you “Take Care of Banff” by ensuring the tasks and maintenance of our streets keeps them clear and in a safe condition, particularly during the winter months. This position is primarily responsible for snow and ice management on Bear Street, Caribou Street, and designated critical intersections throughout the Town. These high-priority areas require specialized attention and equipment to keep surfaces safe, accessible, and walkable for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and other active transportation users.
Responsibilities include clearing snow and ice from public spaces such as sidewalks, walkways, bike racks, benches, and other pedestrian amenities. Equipment used may include hand tools, power brooms, a Toolcat, Bobcat, and small single-axle dump trucks. The position may also be assigned other Streets-related duties as operational needs require.
Working safely is a priority and a condition of employment at the Town of Banff. You will receive safety training and resources on the operation and use power tools and light equipment to perform your duties. This position is based on 40 hours a week and operates seven days a week, with a specific schedule posted. You must be physically able to meet a number of demands such as lifting, standing, walking and tolerating extreme winter temperatures and weather conditions.
Your mental resilience is demonstrated in your ability work and concentrate in darkness while operating equipment and your acceptance that the exceptional expectations of some residents and visitors are not aligned with the realities of winter street maintenance.
You can provide a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license and transparent Driver’s Abstract upon hire. Preference will be given to candidates with Bobcat or Toolcat operating experience and safety program experience and valid first aid will be considered assets. The starting wage for this position is $26.00/hour.
