Build Exceptional Homes with Sherwood Custom Homes

Sherwood Custom Homes is a custom home builder specializing in high-quality residential construction throughout Muskoka and the surrounding areas. We take pride in exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail, and building homes that stand out for their quality and finish.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter / Site Foreman who is equally comfortable working with their hands and leading a job site. This role is ideal for a skilled carpenter who takes pride in framing, trim, finishing, and detailed woodwork, while also having the leadership and organizational skills to coordinate trades and keep a custom home project moving forward.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in the construction process while overseeing day-to-day site operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to Sherwood Custom Homes' high standards.

Responsibilities

- Lead and oversee day-to-day operations on active custom residential construction sites.
- Perform hands-on carpentry work throughout all stages of construction, including:
- Framing and structural woodwork
- Interior and exterior trim
- Doors, windows, and millwork installation
- Finish carpentry and detailed woodwork
- Custom details and miscellaneous carpentry as required
- Deficiency and finishing work
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, trades, and site labour.
- Organize the daily workflow and ensure trades are working efficiently and in the correct sequence.
- Read and interpret architectural drawings, construction plans, and specifications.
- Maintain high standards of craftsmanship, accuracy, and attention to detail.

- Monitor progress and help keep projects on schedule.
- Coordinate material deliveries, tools, equipment, and site logistics.
- Identify potential issues or conflicts before they become costly delays.
- Communicate with project managers, trades, suppliers, and clients as required.
- Inspect completed work and address deficiencies to ensure quality standards are met.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site.
- Ensure site safety procedures and applicable regulations are followed.
- Complete daily site updates, track progress, and communicate important project information to the project manager.
- Help troubleshoot construction challenges and provide practical solutions on site.
- Take ownership of the site and lead by example through strong work ethic, professionalism, and quality workmanship.

What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of residential carpentry experience, preferably with custom homes.
- Strong hands-on experience with framing, trim, finish carpentry, and general woodwork.
- Experience working on high-end or custom residential projects is a strong asset.
- Ability to confidently work from architectural drawings and construction plans.
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods and the Ontario Building Code.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate trades on a construction site.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Organized, dependable,

and able to manage competing priorities.
- Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with homeowners, trades, suppliers, and project managers.
- A hands-on approach — willing and able to jump in and complete carpentry work when required.
- Valid G Driver's Licence and reliable transportation.
- Comfortable working at multiple project sites throughout Muskoka and surrounding areas.

Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- Full-time, year-round
- Occasional overtime as required

The Right Fit This position is best suited to someone who is first and foremost a skilled carpenter who can also lead a site. You should enjoy being hands-on, take pride in doing things right, and have the experience and confidence to keep a construction site organized and moving forward.

If you are the type of carpenter who notices the details, takes ownership of your work, and can confidently direct a crew while still picking up your tools and getting the job done, we want to hear from you.

Why Join Sherwood Custom Homes?

At Sherwood Custom Homes, we believe great homes are built by great people. We value craftsmanship, integrity, professionalism, accountability, and teamwork. Our projects demand a high level of care and attention to detail, and we are looking for someone who takes the same pride in their work that we do in ours.
