About Metal Distributors Limited
Metal Distributors Limited (MDL) is a 75+ year Canadian manufacturer and distributor of specialized non-ferrous metal products.
From our 14,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Abbotsford, we manufacture zinc and aluminum marine anodes under our Reliance brand, as well as specialized lead products used in construction, medical radiation shielding and industrial applications.
We are currently looking for a dependable, safety-conscious Lead Product Welder & Fabrication Technician to join our Lead Division.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on manufacturing position working primarily with lead products and components.
The role includes lead welding, manual rolling of lead sheet, fabrication, forming, finishing and assembly of specialized lead products to customer specifications.
Applicants should be comfortable working with lead in an industrial manufacturing environment. MDL maintains established lead exposure controls, work procedures and required personal protective equipment. Employees working in the Lead Division receive training in the safe handling of lead and are expected to follow all applicable safety procedures.
Previous experience working specifically with lead is not required. Welding, fabrication or related trades experience is preferred, and training in our specialized lead-manufacturing processes will be provided.
Recent welding or trades-school graduates who are interested in developing specialized manufacturing skills are encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do
- Weld and fabricate lead products and components
- Operate a manual lead rolling mill to produce lead sheet to required dimensions
- Cut, form and finish lead sheet and fabricated products
- Assemble finished products according to specifications
- Work accurately from measurements, drawings and production instructions
- Operate hand tools and fabrication equipment
- Inspect finished products for dimensions, quality and workmanship
- Follow established production and quality-control procedures
- Follow all lead exposure control requirements, including required PPE and hygiene procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Complete production records as required
- Assist with other Lead Division manufacturing processes as needed
What You Bring
- Welding, fabrication or related trades training or experience
- Recent welding-school graduates are encouraged to apply
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on ability
- Ability to work accurately from measurements and instructions
- Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Ability and willingness to learn specialized manufacturing processes
- Ability to consistently follow established health and safety procedures
- Comfort working with lead while using required exposure controls and PPE
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small production team once trained
Schedule
- Full time, permanent
- Day shift only
- Monday–Thursday: 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
- Friday: 6:00 AM–1:30 PM
- Overtime may be available as production requires
Compensation & Benefits
- $20.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
- Overtime pay
