Lead Scenic Carpenter
General Description The Lead Scenic Carpenter is responsible for ensuring that the scenic needs of each production at Langham Court Theatre are delivered safely, on time and on budget. They are responsible to ensure that the volunteer building team is fully resourced. The focus is providing a rich, rewarding experience for the volunteer construction team, while also providing a high standard of leadership, including education.
Relationships The Human Resources Committee of the Board of Directors, engages and evaluates the performance of the Lead Scenic Carpenter (LSC). The LSC mentors, resources, and leads the volunteer construction team. They will also connect with the director and set designer should questions arise during the build.
Accountabilities and Outcomes
· Ensure the scenic needs of each production are delivered safely on time and on budget to an expected level of quality
· Foster a positive, engaging, and rewarding experience for all volunteer construction team members.
· Ensure the volunteer construction team is fully informed and has all the resources necessary to successfully accomplish the project
· Maintain clear, consistent, and timely communication between the Director and Set Designer to support efficient decision-making.
· Effectively translate the director/designer communication into plans, schedules, successful construction methods, materials lists, drawings and other tools as necessary
· Lead the activities of each construction session,
set up and strike of all scenic elements
· Train new volunteers to successfully join the volunteer construction team
· Promote sustainable construction practices and maintain an organized scene shop by reducing, reusing, and recycling materials whenever possible.
· Maintain a safe and fully functional scene shop to support all production activities.
· Ensure all construction crew members are informed about key production events and logistics, including the Meet & Greet, performance dates, complimentary tickets, the after-show party, strike schedule, and any other relevant production updates.
· Attend regular production meetings to report on progress, challenges and learn of special/specific needs relating to set construction.
· Determine set construction budget in consultation with the Producer. Notifies the Producer, as early as possible, of any expected budget overrun during construction.
· Coordinate with the Producer to confirm the strike date and call time, typically scheduled for Monday morning immediately after the final Sunday performance..
Qualifications The LSC will have demonstrated success in scenic construction, drafting, organization and team leadership. Relevant post-secondary training an asset. Remuneration is based on $2000 per show. For further information, contact
