Hammonds Plains

On behalf of our client, OK Tire & Auto Service, we are looking for a Licensed Automotive Technician to join their team in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia.

About Our Client:

With more than 325 locations across Canada, OK Tire is the country's largest independent tire and auto service retailer. Locally, the organization operates 14 locations throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Their Hammonds Plains location is a busy, well-established shop that has been part of the community for approximately 25 years. As one of their largest locations, the shop has built a strong reputation through quality workmanship, repeat customers and referrals.

Their approach is very team focused. Technicians are paid straight time rather than flat rate, which allows the team to work together, support one another and share knowledge without the pressure of competing for billable hours.

The Opportunity:

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Automotive Technician who enjoys the trade but is looking for a collaborative shop environment where quality work and teamwork are valued.

Unlike many dealerships and repair shops, OK Tire pays technicians straight time, not flat rate. From the time you punch in until the time you leave, you're paid for the hours you work, whether you're completing a repair, diagnosing an issue, helping another technician or supporting the team around the shop.

You'll work on a wide variety of makes and models and handle everything from routine maintenance to more complex repairs and diagnostics.

The Hammonds

Plains location is a busy shop with multiple hoists, so you'll also need to be comfortable managing more than one vehicle at a time when needed.

The team is looking for someone who takes pride in doing good work, enjoys helping others and wants to be part of a shop where people genuinely work together.

The Ideal Candidate:

- You're an experienced Automotive Technician who is confident in your abilities but still enjoys being part of a team.

- You're comfortable working on different makes and models rather than specializing in one manufacturer, and you can shift between repairs and priorities as the day changes.

- You take pride in doing the job properly, treat customer vehicles with care and aren't interested in recommending work that isn't needed.

- You may also enjoy mentoring less experienced technicians and sharing what you've learned throughout your career.

Responsibilities:

- Diagnose mechanical issues through road testing, inspection and testing of automotive systems and components.

- Complete repairs and maintenance on a variety of makes and models.

- Perform brake, suspension, front-end, exhaust, tune-up, maintenance and tire work.

- Complete Motor Vehicle Inspections.

- Manage work across multiple vehicles or hoists when required.

- Review recommended repairs with the Shop Manager before proceeding.

- Let the Shop Manager know when unexpected issues or additional repairs arise.

- Support other technicians when needed and share knowledge with less experienced team members.

- Take ownership of the quality of your repairs and work toward minimizing return defects.

- Keep customer vehicles clean and protected while they are in the shop.

- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.

Requirements

We're looking for someone who knows their trade but doesn't need to have an ego about it. Someone who is willing to jump in, help another technician and be part of the team.

You'll ideally bring:

- Approximately 2 to 5+ years of experience in the automotive trade.

- A valid MVI licence.

- Red Seal certification is an asset, but not required.

- A valid driver's licence.

- Experience repairing and maintaining a variety of makes and models.

- The ability to diagnose issues and work independently.

- Comfort managing multiple vehicles and priorities throughout the day.

- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.

- A willingness to support and work alongside other technicians.

- The physical ability to lift and move items weighing up to approximately 50 lbs.

Benefits

- Approximately $60,000 to $75,000 annually, based on experience.

- Straight-time pay, not flat rate.

- Comprehensive health and dental benefits.

- 3% RRSP matching.

- Paid vacation.

- Compensation review after approximately six months based on performance and progression.

- Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

- Occasional Saturday mornings, 8:00am to 1:00pm, during the spring and fall tire seasons. Technicians typically work only a handful of these Saturdays throughout the year.

- Stable, year-round work in an established and busy shop.

- A team environment where experienced technicians are encouraged to mentor and support others.

If you're an experienced Automotive Technician who enjoys the trade but would like to work somewhere that values teamwork, quality work and the time you put in each day, we'd love to hear from you.
