Roles & Responsibilities
Working within a 1:6 instructor-to-participant ratio, the Instructor supports the delivery of services that directly impact vulnerable populations in the Guelph community. The Instructor will:
Program Delivery & Facilitation
- Lead and facilitate programming within Community of Hearts’ Learning Day Program that reduces social isolation, promotes inclusion and community integration, and supports the overall well-being of youth, adults, and seniors living with developmental exceptionalities.
- Enthusiastically deliver quality, curriculum-based life skills programming that is socially creative, engaging, and responsive to the needs of the People We Support.
- Attend all mandatory training required to prepare for responsibilities on the job.
- Attend daily debriefs with the supervision team.
- Create and adapt teaching tools and activities to support the development and acquisition of practical life skills, including:
- Maintaining a clean living space
- Safety and skills for independent living
- Financial literacy and budgeting
- Accessing community resources

- Creative arts exploration (Visual Art, Music, Drama, Etc)
- Horticultural and agricultural exploration
Wellness & Fitness
- Stress management strategies
- Physical fitness programs in our in office gym
- Gentle movement and accessible exercise
Literature & Comprehension
- Reading aloud followed by discussion and analysis
Communication & Community Outreach
- Build and maintain positive, supportive relationships with the People We Support and their support networks.
- Respond to and support a variety of emotional and individual needs as necessary.
Documentation, Evaluation & Team Support
- Document and report program successes, challenges, and outcomes to the supervision team.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and make necessary changes to strengthen program content and service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with the Life Skills Educators, Administrative Staff and Program Manager, seeking support and guidance throughout the employment experience.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as necessary to support the People We Serve and the effective delivery of Community of Hearts programs.
