About the Job
- Pay: $33.44 per hour (2026 rate), training rate of 4% less ($ ) will apply if experience requirement is not met.
- Term: Approximately October 13, 2026, to April 15, 2027
- Hours: 40 hours per week, plus extra and on-call hours during winter operations
- Locations: Public Works depots across Kawartha Lakes
Premium Pay: An extra $0.50 per hour when operating winter combination units (plow/sander)
As a Temporary Equipment Operator with the City of Kawartha Lakes, you will help keep roads safe during the winter. You will operate snow plows, sanders, loaders,
and other heavy equipment. You will also assist with road maintenance work as needed.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for candidates with at least one year of winter road maintenance experience , including operating a plow truck with a wing and sander.
No winter maintenance experience? Apply anyway.
If you have a valid Ontario DZ licence and experience operating heavy equipment safely, we may provide training to help you move into winter operations.
Employees who need extra training will start at a pay rate that is 4% below the regular starting rate during their training period.
You Must Have:
- A Secondary School Diploma
- A valid Ontario Class D licence with a Z endorsement (or higher)
- A protected driving record
- Experience operating heavy equipment safely
- The ability to work on your own and as part of a team
- Availability for extra and on-call hours during the winter season
- The ability to meet the physical demands of the job
As part of the hiring process, applicants must complete a practical equipment test .
