Description:

The Milk Maid is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Line Cook and Kitchen Prep Assistant to join our Owen Sound team on a part-time basis (16-20 hours/week) As a Line Cook and Kitchen Prep Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our kitchen, in a busy downtown lunch spot, primarily focusing on preparing sandwiches, salads, soups and baked goods.

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare sandwiches, salads, soups, and baked goods according to established recipes and standards.
- Prepare, process and package food items for sales & service.
- Assist in opening and closing duties, including organizing and maintaining a clean, secure, and well-organized kitchen workspace.
- Measure and portion ingredients accurately for various recipes.
- Assist in inventory management, including stock rotation and monitoring ingredient levels.
- Follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures to maintain high levels of hygiene and safety.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the kitchen manager.
- Embrace a teamwork-oriented environment, offering support to other staff as required.

Required skills and experience:

- Minimum 1-year experience in a similar role.
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously and safely.
- Ability to follow instructions & recipes accurately and execute tasks efficiently.
- Must maintain up to date Safe Food Handler’s certification.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.




- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
- Willingness to learn and a passion for fine food is essential.
- A positive attitude, excellent English communication skills, and a team player mentality.
- All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Desirable skills and experience:

- Extensive knowledge of different types of cheese, including regional varieties, milk types, and flavor profiles.
- General food knowledge, including cheese-based recipes, and wine pairings.

About The Milk Maid: The Milk Maid is a fine cheese & gourmet food shop and bistro in downtown Owen Sound, ON, with a satellite store in neighboring Port Elgin and Meaford.

The Owen

Sound location offers a wide selection of local and imported cheeses, cured meats, gourmet pantry items, preserves, chocolates, wine, beer & cider and more. Owen Sound also boasts a fully-licensed dining room for cheese & charcuterie boards, sandwiches, salads, soups, baked goods and other light fare.

The Port

Elgin and Meaford stores are both based within The Cook’s Cupboard,



a high end kitchenware store we are partnering with, along with a butcher and other local food companies to create a market-like shopping experience. In both locations, we offer our wide selection of local and imported cheeses, cured meats, and made-to-order cheese & charcuterie boards.
