About the Role The Customs & Logistics Coordinator manages the end-to-end movement of raw materials, specialized components parts and finished truck bodies across domestic and international borders. In this role, you will ensure total customs compliance, optimize multi-modal freight routes, and work closely with manufacturing and delivery teams to prevent supply chain bottlenecks.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Compliance & Trade Regulations
- Classify truck body components, raw materials, and finished units using accurate Harmonized System (HS) codes.
- Prepare, audit, and submit essential import/export documentation, including commercial invoices, bills of lading, packing lists, and certificates of origin (e.g., CUSMA/USMCA).
- Liaise directly with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and border regulatory agencies to expedite clearances.
- Monitor international trade regulations, tariff changes, and industry-specific compliance requirements.
Logistics & Freight Management
- Coordinate inbound freight for heavy components, chassis frames, steel sheets, and hydraulic assemblies.
- Direct outbound logistics for completed, custom-built truck bodies including managing specialized permits, escorts, and oversized transport solutions.
- Evaluate and select cost-effective freight methods across road, rail, and ocean carriers to optimize transit times and budgets.
- Align shipping and receiving schedules with live plant production milestones and customer delivery targets.
Cross-Functional Operations & Inventory Tracking
- Maintain real-time shipment visibility and update transit milestones within internal systems.
- Partner with procurement and production planners to forecast lead times and proactively mitigate potential transit delays.
- Rapidly troubleshoot transit exceptions, customs holds, or carrier disruptions to keep assembly lines running without interruption.
Carrier & Vendor Relations
- Build and maintain productive relationships with 3PLs, freight forwarders, carriers, and suppliers.
- Solicit freight quotes, negotiate competitive rates, and review carrier performance metrics.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum one year of direct experience in freight logistics and customs compliance, preferably within the automotive, heavy equipment, or commercial truck manufacturing sector.
- Working knowledge of Incoterms, HS classification, and cross-border customs documentation.
- Hands-on experience coordinating specialized, flatbed, or oversized/heavy-haul freight.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such Excel, Word and Outlook.
