Role Description The Machinist role is a full-time, in office position located in Ottawa, ON. The Machinist will set up, operate, and maintain CNC and manual machines to produce precision metal and optical components according to engineering drawings and specifications. Daily tasks include interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate tooling and materials, performing machine adjustments, and monitoring production to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

The Machinist will inspect parts using measuring instruments, document results,



and collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve issues and optimize processes. The role also involves routine machine maintenance, adherence to safety protocols, and contributing to continuous improvement of machining methods and workflows.

Qualifications

- CNC and manual machining skills, including setup, operation, and basic programming of mills, lathes, and related equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD-generated documentation with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in measurement and inspection using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision metrology tools.
- Knowledge of materials and machining practices for metals commonly used in optical manufacturing (e.g., copper, aluminum, stainless steel).
- Understanding of machining tolerances, surface finishes, and quality control standards in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machining and production issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to workplace safety, housekeeping, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Previous experience in a machine shop or precision manufacturing setting; experience in optical or high-precision components is an asset.

- Secondary school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade certification in machining or manufacturing technology is preferred.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and contribute positively to a team-oriented environment.
