Job Summary

Columbia Paramedic Academy is seeking an experienced and innovative Manager, Strategic Initiatives to support the continued development of our educational programs, educators, and organizational initiatives.

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Initiatives, this position will play a key role in strengthening educator development, onboarding, continuing education, and instructional quality across the organization. The successful candidate will combine educational expertise with strong organizational and project-management skills and will be comfortable moving between strategic planning and hands-on implementation.

This role may be structured between 0.5 and 1.0 FTE, depending on the experience, interests, and availability of the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities and Duties The Manager, Strategic Initiatives will:

- Lead and support the development of educator onboarding and orientation programs.
- Develop, coordinate, and evaluate continuing education and professional development opportunities for educators.
- Support the creation of educator-development programs focused on effective teaching, assessment, feedback, simulation, learner engagement, and contemporary educational practices.
- Develop resources, guides, templates, and tools to support consistent instructional practice across Columbia Paramedic Academy programs.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and ongoing development of new educators.
- Work collaboratively with program leadership and subject-matter experts to identify educator-development needs and organizational priorities.
- Support quality-improvement initiatives related to teaching, learning, assessment, and educator performance.
- Assist with the development and implementation of new educational initiatives and strategic projects.




- Review emerging evidence and best practices in health professions and post-secondary education and help translate these into practical improvements.
- Support evaluation of educator-development initiatives using feedback, performance data, and other quality indicators.
- Participate in organizational planning, accreditation activities, curriculum development, and other strategic initiatives as required.
- Build collaborative relationships with educators, program coordinators, leadership, and external partners.

Experience The successful candidate will ideally have:

- Demonstrated experience in educator development, faculty development, or instructor professional development.
- Experience developing and delivering educator onboarding or orientation programs.
- Experience designing or coordinating continuing education and professional-development programs.
- Experience teaching, coordinating, or supporting education in a college, university, or other post-secondary environment preferred.
- Experience within health professions education, paramedicine, nursing, allied health, medicine, or another healthcare discipline preferred.
- Experience with curriculum development, instructional design, assessment, simulation, or competency-based education considered an asset.
- Experience managing educational projects or organizational initiatives considered an asset.

Knowledge and Skills We are looking for someone who:

- Can translate educational theory and evidence into practical tools educators can use.
- Is comfortable facilitating workshops, mentoring educators, and working with experienced professionals.
- Has excellent written communication and resource-development skills.
- Can independently manage multiple projects while collaborating effectively with a distributed team.
- Is organized, adaptable, creative, and comfortable working in an evolving educational organization.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build relationships with educators from diverse professional and experiential backgrounds.
- Approaches educational improvement with curiosity, evidence, collaboration, and a learner-centred mindset.




- Is comfortable using virtual collaboration and educational technology.

The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an experienced educator who enjoys developing other educators. They may come from paramedicine or another health profession, post-secondary education, instructional design, faculty development, or a combination of these areas. More important than any single professional background is the ability to create engaging, practical, evidence-informed systems that help educators become more confident and effective teachers.

This individual should be equally comfortable facilitating an educator-development session, developing an onboarding framework, reviewing educational evidence, creating practical teaching resources, and collaborating with leadership on a new strategic initiative.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a temporary, partial to full-time position. We also offer 3 weeks’ paid vacation, 10 paid annual sick leave days (which can be used for yourself or to care for immediate family members), an option of medical benefits or a paid amount in lieu, and adaptable scheduling practices that include the potential for shifting schedules, occasional telecommuting/remote work and banking time off, subject to operational requirements.

Preferred Education

- Bachelor’s degree in education, adult education, health professions education, instructional design, leadership, or a related discipline preferred.
- Graduate education in education, health professions education, leadership, or a related area is considered an asset.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant professional experience will be considered.

Pay: $38.00-$52.00 per hour
