We are a boutique advisory firm specializing in complex corporate restructurings, turnaround situations, and special situations mandates. We are seeking a senior restructuring and advisory professional to join our team as Managing Director and play a key leadership role in client delivery, market development, and practice growth.
This is a senior client-facing leadership role for an accomplished professional who can originate and lead complex mandates, advise boards and senior stakeholders, oversee multi-disciplinary teams, and contribute meaningfully to the firm’s strategic growth. The successful candidate will lead engagements involving financial restructuring, operational improvement, liquidity management, stakeholder negotiations, distressed M&A;, and special situations advisory.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex restructuring, turnaround, performance improvement, and special situations engagements from origination through execution
- Provide senior oversight and strategic direction on the preparation of:
o 13-week cash flow forecasts o Business viability assessments o Independent Business Reviews (IBRs) o Liquidity analyses o Stakeholder reporting packages
- Lead or advise on court-supervised processes under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA)
- Serve as a trusted senior advisor to Monitors, Trustees, Receivers, lenders, legal counsel, boards, and executive leadership teams
- Advise boards, lenders, investors, and executive teams on:
o Capital restructuring alternatives o Distressed refinancing options o Debt restructuring negotiations o DIP financing processes o Asset sale strategies and SISP processes
- Lead distressed M&A; and special situations transactions, including sale processes, refinancing initiatives, and stakeholder negotiations
- Translate complex financial, operational, and legal considerations into practical recommendations for senior decision-maker
- Direct financial analysis across performance, working capital, covenant compliance,
liquidity, profitability, and enterprise value drivers
- Identify and prioritize operational improvement, cash preservation, and value stabilization opportunities
- Guide cost reduction, liquidity enhancement, and turnaround execution initiatives in partnership with clients and stakeholders
- Challenge management forecasts, business plans, assumptions, and restructuring alternatives with sound commercial judgment
- Originate, develop, and maintain senior relationships with referral sources, clients, and market participants, including:
o Banks and private credit funds o Legal Counsel o Private equity firms o CROs and interim executives
- Lead business development efforts, including pitch strategy, proposal development, mandate scoping, and fee discussions
- Enhance the firm’s market presence through thought leadership, speaking opportunities, referral relationships, and sector visibility
- Contribute to annual revenue growth, pipeline development, client retention, and the strategic direction of the restructuring advisory practice
- Lead and develop engagement teams, including Directors, Managers, Senior Associates, and Analysts
- Set engagement priorities, review deliverables, and ensure consistently high-quality work product
- Mentor and coach professionals, providing clear feedback, development guidance, and leadership by example
- Build team capability and support recruiting, retention, and talent development within the advisory practice
Qualifications
- CPA, CA strongly preferred
- · CFA, CBV, CIRP, CTP, or MBA considered strong assets
- 12–20+ years of relevant restructuring, insolvency, transaction advisory,
corporate finance, or special situations experience
- Extensive experience leading restructuring, insolvency, turnaround, transaction advisory, or special situations mandates
- Established credibility advising secured lenders, borrowers, boards, investors, legal counsel, and senior management teams
- Experience with court-supervised and informal restructuring processes under CCAA/BIA strongly preferred
- Strong technical foundation in financial modelling, liquidity forecasting, valuation, and restructuring alternatives
- Experience in distressed or special situations environments
- Advanced Excel financial modelling
- Cash flow forecasting
- Financial Statement Analysis
- Valuation fundamentals
- Knowledge of Canadian insolvency frameworks
- PowerPoint and report writing proficiency
- Robust executive presence

Pay: $175,000.00-$185,000.00 per year
