About the Client

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a senior woman living independently in an East York apartment building. She was recently diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer and is currently receiving palliative care while the family works out long-term care arrangements. She has significant hearing loss and uses amplification devices to communicate. She experiences breathing difficulties at night and anxiety about being alone. A PSW from the building currently assists with evening personal care routines, and a nurse visits twice weekly. The family is looking for consistent companionship and support during daytime hours to help their mom feel safe and comfortable at home.

Responsibilities

- Provide companionship and emotional support during 4-hour daytime visits.
- Assist with light meal preparation including reheating meals and providing reminders to eat.
- Support with mobility and transfers as needed, as she uses mobility aids.
- Provide toileting and hygiene assistance when required.
- Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection for cognitive support.
- Perform light tidying and housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean workplace.
- Communicate clearly using amplification devices due to her hearing impairment.
- Monitor her comfort and breathing, providing reassurance during episodes of anxiety or breathing difficulty.

What We're Looking For

A caregiver who makes the care recipient feel comfortable and at ease. Someone who is calm, patient, and brings positive energy to each visit. Reliability and consistency are essential as the family wants to build a trusting relationship.



The ideal caregiver takes initiative when needed and communicates clearly with family members. Experience caring for individuals with dementia or cognitive changes is required. Ability to provide mobility and transfer assistance safely. Experience with toileting and personal hygiene support. Must speak English and Filipino fluently. Comfort working with palliative care patients and understanding of end-of-life care needs is valuable.

Schedule

Twice weekly visits on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM (4 hours per visit). The family is open to adjusting days and times based on caregiver availability and the care recipient's needs. Start date is flexible, with preference for beginning the following week after caregiver selection. This is an ongoing position with potential to increase hours or add overnight support as needs evolve.
