About Verdyn

Verdyn is a Canadian power infrastructure solutions company that designs, manufactures, and delivers advanced electrical systems for demanding environments where grid capacity, power quality, and system response are mission-critical.

Built around advanced power electronics, control software, and modelling-first engineering, Verdyn delivers turnkey solutions from grid connection to load — combining Canadian manufacturing and testing, system integration, commissioning, and long-term support. Our work spans utility, industrial, data centre, energy storage, and EV charging applications. At Verdyn, we don't just offer jobs — we build careers.

About the Role

As an integral part of Verdyn's dynamic engineering team, we invite you to apply your creativity and technical expertise to the mechanical design of our power infrastructure products — from power-electronics enclosures and cabinets to the thermal and structural systems that keep high-power-density equipment running reliably in the field.

In this role you will own mechanical design from concept through prototype, testing, and production, working shoulder-to-shoulder with our electrical, power-electronics, and firmware engineers. If you enjoy turning complex electrical systems into robust, manufacturable, thermally sound hardware, this is a high-ownership role with real impact on products that solve mission-critical power challenges.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop mechanical enclosures, cabinets, and housings for power-electronics systems — including STATCOM, E-STATCOM, energy storage, DC power delivery, and EV charging products.
- Engineer thermal management solutions for high-power-density power electronics, including air- and liquid-cooling strategies, heat sinks, airflow paths, and thermal interfaces.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings with appropriate GD&T; (SolidWorks or equivalent).

- Validate structural, vibration, shock, and seismic performance through hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA).
- Perform thermal simulations (CFD) to verify cooling performance under real operating and worst-case conditions.
- Own the mechanical integration of busbars, power modules, magnetics, cooling systems, and electrical assemblies in close collaboration with the electrical and power-electronics teams.
- Refine designs for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA), working with sheet-metal, machining, and fabrication suppliers to optimize cost, quality, and lead time.
- Lead prototyping, build support, and design-validation testing; drive issues to root cause and close them out with sound engineering changes.
- Support manufacturing and factory testing by preparing bills of materials, assembly instructions, and clear technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant enclosure and environmental standards (e.g., IP/NEMA ratings, UL/CSA enclosure requirements, and seismic considerations).
- Communicate effectively with system architects, project managers, and external stakeholders to keep designs on schedule and aligned to requirements.

Qualifications

Required

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally for electromechanical, electronics-enclosure, or power/electrical hardware products.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)

and strong command of GD&T; and detailed drawing practices.
- Demonstrated experience in thermal management and cooling design for electronic or power systems.
- Working knowledge of FEA / simulation and the ability to translate results into design decisions.
- Familiarity with sheet-metal design, machining, and fabrication processes, and with DFM/DFA principles.
- Strong self-management, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently to project timelines.

Preferred

- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence in Ontario, or EIT working toward licensure.
- Experience with thermal/CFD simulation tools (e.g., Ansys, Flotherm, or SolidWorks Flow Simulation).
- Background in power electronics, industrial electrical equipment, or energy hardware.
- Familiarity with enclosure and safety standards (NEMA, IEC/IP, UL 508A, CSA) and seismic/structural requirements.
- Experience with PLM/PDM systems, version control, and structured engineering-change processes.
- Comfort in a fast-paced, growing company where you can help shape processes and products from the ground up.

What We Offer

- A high-impact, high-ownership engineering role at a fast-growing Canadian power-infrastructure company.
- The chance to design hardware for mission-critical systems across utility, industrial, data centre, storage, and EV charging markets.
- A collaborative, multidisciplinary team and hands-on involvement from concept through manufacturing and commissioning.
- A competitive compensation and benefits package.
