Primary Purpose: The Mechanical Design Technician or Mechanical Design Technologist is responsible for the design and development of mechanical components for both new and existing products, as well as consultation for all in-depth mechanical inquiries within Production.
Essential Job Functions
Technical Support, Documentation & Collaboration Act as primary liaison between Production and Engineering.
Manage roll out of the new products into the Production; participate in Kaizen events, roll out planning sessions, development of training tools for production staff, development of troubleshooting tools for technicians, etc.
Review Engineering Change Request (ECR) documents from Production and produce Engineering Change Notices (ECN). Ensure adherence to change notices.
Provide engineering support to Production department to troubleshoot and resolve technical constraints, as well as design clarification.
Support
Maintenance and Production departments with technical support relating to machine operations, diagnostic questions and equipment repairs.
Collaborate with internal departments, external consultants, and partners to deliver projects and identify, define, or solve developmental problems.
Provide support to Quality Coordinator in addressing identified quality control issues, as needed. Design & Development Draft detail drawings for parts fabrications by machine shops.
Discuss changes in design method of manufacture and assembly, drafting techniques and procedures, and coordinate corrections.
Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate proposals for improving equipment performance.
Source and evaluate necessary materials for new product development and existing product redesign.
Design and modify prototypes, parts, assemblies, or systems to correct functional deviations.
Technical Documentation
Provide CAD drawings and specifications for product manuals.
Create, modify and/or review SOPs for new and existing parts and products.
Create and modify Instruction Manuals and Materials for current and existing parts and products.

Education and Work Experience: Mechanical Engineering Technician or Technologist diploma.

Using computer software, inspecting components, and reading materials require fine motor skills including some eye strain.
