About the Role

Armor Wood is looking for a talented Mechanical Maintenance Repair Technician to join our team! Do you enjoy working with your hands? Are you motivated, hardworking, and looking for your next opportunity? If so, consider joining the Production team at Armor Wood.

Working under the direction of the Plant Manager, this role is responsible for repairing and maintaining all production and mechanical equipment related to lumber treating. The successful candidate will work hand in hand with the Production department to effectively understand daily operations and provide valuable support.

Responsibilities The Mechanical Maintenance Repairs Technician oversees the maintenance and repair of machinery, mechanical equipment, vehicles, building systems, and grounds, ensuring adherence to specifications and standards. This role will be responsible for coordinating employees, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring efficient operations across various maintenance activities.

Equipment Maintenance and Repair:

- Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines.
- This role may be required to design and assemble new systems as operational needs progress.
- Follow diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Observe mechanical devices in operation to identify issues and perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs such as cleaning, lubricating, and performing other routine maintenance work.
- Forklift and fleet vehicle maintenance tasks can include: oil changes, checking fluid levels, tire changes, installing new headlights/tail lights, etc.
- Dismantle devices to access and replace defective parts, using hoists, cranes, and various tools.
- Inspect parts for imperfections and measure dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and other instruments.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments to ensure proper operation.

Supervision and Coordination:





- Supervise skilled trades workers engaged in maintenance and repair activities, including equipment, electrical systems, plumbing, and building structures.
- Develop work schedules and assign tasks to colleagues, ensuring timely completion of projects.
- Provide performance feedback to ensure high-quality workmanship.
- Interpret company policies and enforce health and safety practices among team members.
- Analyze and resolve work-related problems, providing assistance to employees as needed.
- Investigate accidents and prepare detailed reports as required.

Facilities Management:

- Evaluate systems and facilities to determine installation or repair needs.
- Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with blueprints, specifications, and safety standards in all completed work.
- Supervise ground maintenance activities and custodial services, providing light plumbing and electrical work as needed.

Additional Responsibilities (as applicable):

- Operate metalworking tools to fabricate and repair parts.
- Initiate purchase orders for parts and machines.
- Repair electrical equipment or oversee electrical maintenance activities.
- Assist Production Supervisor to recruit, hire, train, and evaluate maintenance staff as needed.

Work Schedule

This role operates Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM with a half-hour unpaid for lunch. Extra hours may be available at a shift premium rate.

Qualifications

- Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field is desired.
- Demonstrated mechanical experience and aptitude is required.



Experience with power and small hand tools is a must.
- Confined Space Safety Training and Certification is as asset. May be provided to successful candidate if required for future projects.
- Knowledge of and general understanding of plumbing, welding, and electrical workings are strong assets. Ability to read motor controls (AC and DC) is desired.
- Previous forklift training and/or certification is an asset, but not required.
- Must have your own vehicle to get to and from work. Our building is not located on public transit routes.
- Ability to successfully pass a fit test including lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing ladders/stairs to access equipment is required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Must wear a pair of CSA Approved Safety (steel toed) boots, work gloves, and hearing protection as necessary.
