About Us
True Gear & Spline is a trusted leader in precision gear and spline manufacturing, serving customers across Canada and internationally. We specialize in high‑accuracy machining, grinding, and spline cutting, supported by a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and customer commitment. We are seeking a driven Process / Mechanical Engineer to strengthen our engineering capability and support the next phase of operational growth.
Position Overview The Process / Mechanical Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting manufacturing processes across the facility. This role combines engineering analysis with hands‑on shop‑floor involvement, including processing new parts, programming, validating machining strategies, and supporting capital equipment initiatives. The engineer will also play a key role in implementing True Gear’s new ERP system, supporting Controlled Goods and AS9100D certification, and driving continuous improvement across operations, quality assurance and workflow efficiency.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both technical problem‑solving and practical, hands‑on engineering work.
Key Responsibilities
- Process new parts and programs, including reviewing customer drawings, developing machining strategies, creating setup documentation, and supporting CNC programming.
- Assist with capital projects, including equipment evaluations, commissioning, tooling upgrades and optimization, and process capability improvements.
- Lead implementation of the new ERP system, ensuring accurate routing, BOM structure, process flow, and integration with production and quality requirements.
- Lead process improvement and optimization initiatives, focusing on cycle time reduction, workflow efficiency, tooling performance, and machine capability.
- Support Controlled Goods and AS9100D certification efforts, including process development, documentation updates, and alignment of engineering workflows with defense and aerospace requirements.
- Create and maintain standard work documentation for both operations and quality assurance, ensuring consistency, clarity, and repeatability across all machining processes.
- Develop and maintain setup sheets, work instructions, and technical documentation for gear cutting, shaping, milling, turning, and grinding operations
- Provide hands‑on support for machine setup, trials, troubleshooting, and validation of new or improved processes.
- Collaborate with sales and management to evaluate new sales avenues, support technical quoting, and assess manufacturability of new customer opportunities.
- Train operators and team members on new processes, tooling, methods, and best practices.
- Work cross‑functionally with quality assurance, production, and leadership to support continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Ensure all engineering activities support safety, quality, and productivity goals.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
- Strong understanding of machining processes; gear cutting or grinding experience is a significant asset.
- Experience with CNC programming, tooling selection, feeds/speeds optimization, and process engineering.
- Hands‑on mechanical aptitude with ability to support setups, troubleshoot issues, and validate processes.
- Experience with ERP systems; involvement in ERP implementation is an asset.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015; exposure to Controlled Goods and AS9100D is an advantage.
- Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze data, interpret drawings, and solve complex technical problems.
- Collaborative mindset with robust interpersonal and training abilities.
