VALWELL TECHNOLOGIES

Creative Solutions for the Oil & Gas Industry

Mechanical Technologist / Designer

Full-Time | Edmonton, AB | In Person

Why ValWell?

ValWell is a small company on the verge of big growth. A recent acquisition is fuelling our expansion, and the people who join us now will help shape what comes next. For a designer, that means your drawings don't sit in a queue behind ten other projects—they go straight to the shop floor, and you see the result in steel.

- A design role with real ownership—you'll build the engineering and documentation systems, not just work inside someone else's.
- Faster career growth—new roles and leadership opportunities are being created as we scale.
- Direct access to the shop floor, the field teams, and the customers whose problems you're solving.
- The stability of an established business with the energy of a company entering its next chapter.

The Role We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Technologist / Designer to support the design, manufacturing, data management, and continuous improvement of wellhead equipment and related pressure-containing components.

This role sits at the bridge between engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations. You'll design equipment for thermal, HPHT, multi-string, and conventional wellhead applications—and you'll help develop and maintain the engineering and quality systems that keep a regulated oil and gas shop running properly. If you want a role where you own the design function rather than filling in someone else's title blocks, this is it.

What You'll Do

Engineering & Design

- Develop, review, and maintain detailed mechanical designs, drawings, and models for wellhead equipment using SolidWorks.
- Apply and interpret API, ASME, ISO, and CSA standards relevant to wellhead and pressure equipment (e.g., API 6A, API 5CT).

- Create and manage BOMs, layouts, routings, and technical specifications.
- Perform and verify engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and material selections.
- Take dimensional measurements of parts to design custom components into existing equipment.
- Create and maintain product documentation and manufacturing specifications.
- Support design reviews, risk assessments, and change management processes.

Engineering & Quality Systems

- Manage and maintain the part, drawing, and documentation database in SharePoint.
- Develop, implement, and maintain engineering procedures, work instructions, and design control processes.
- Maintain document control for engineering and quality records.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering workflows, tools, and systems.

Manufacturing & Operations Support

- Act as the technical liaison between engineering and other departments.
- Support DFM/DFA initiatives to improve manufacturability, cost, and lead times.
- Assist with prototype builds, testing, and qualification.
- Support shop-floor troubleshooting, non-conformance resolution, and corrective actions.

What You Bring

- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in product mechanical design and manufacturing, preferably with oil and gas wellhead equipment.
- Strong experience with CAD software, engineering documentation, and part data management.

- Solid understanding of pressure equipment, materials, machining, welding, and heat treatment.
- Hands-on experience with API and quality system requirements.
- Experience working in a shop environment and using quality measuring tools.
- Proven ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Nice to Have:

- SolidWorks PDM or other PLM/document management experience.
- Exposure to thermal/SAGD, cyclic steam, or HPHT wellhead applications.
- Familiarity with ABSA and CRN requirements for pressure equipment in Alberta.
- ASET registration (C.E.T. or R.E.T.) or eligibility.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or equivalent).
- English language proficiency.

What We Offer

- Competitive full time compensation based on experience.
- Extended health care benefits.
- On-site parking.
- Support toward professional certification and ongoing technical training.
- On-the-job training and real opportunities for advancement.
- The chance to build the engineering function at a company that's scaling.

How to Apply Ready to build your career with a company that's going places? Submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience. If you can include a few sample drawings or a portfolio—with any confidential customer information removed—we'd love to see your work.

ValWell Technologies is an equal opportunity employer. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Pay: $60,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
