About the Role

We are looking for a Medical Coding Specialist who can support the accuracy and integrity of clinical documentation, health records, and medical coding processes.

In this role, you will work closely with clinical, health information, and administrative teams to review medical documentation, assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes, identify documentation gaps, and help maintain high standards of coding accuracy and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Coding: Review patient charts and clinical documentation and assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes in accordance with applicable Canadian coding standards.

Documentation Review: Examine medical records for completeness, consistency, and appropriate supporting documentation.

Coding Accuracy:



Identify coding discrepancies and make appropriate corrections while maintaining detailed records of coding decisions.

Records Management: Maintain accurate health information and ensure coded data is entered into hospital information systems in a timely manner.

Compliance Support: Follow hospital policies, privacy requirements, coding guidelines, and established health information procedures.

Team Collaboration: Work with clinical documentation, health information, billing, and administrative teams to resolve coding and documentation questions.

Quality Improvement: Participate in coding audits and process improvement initiatives designed to improve data accuracy and operational efficiency.

What We Are Looking For

Experience: 3 to 5 years of professional experience in medical coding, health information management, hospital records, or a closely related healthcare field.

Education: Post secondary education in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, Health Records, or a related discipline.

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of medical terminology, diagnostic and procedural coding principles, electronic health records, and healthcare documentation.

Attention to Detail: You are highly organized and able to identify inconsistencies or missing information in complex medical records.

Communication: You can communicate clearly with clinical and administrative teams and explain coding requirements in a professional manner.

Technology: Comfortable working with electronic medical records, hospital information systems, coding software, and Microsoft Office applications.

Mindset: You are accurate, analytical, dependable, and committed to maintaining high standards of healthcare information quality.

Pay: $5,683.00-$11,018.00 per month
