Reporting to the Manager Finance, the Medical Travel Supervisor is accountable for the coordination, planning, and delivery of medical transportation services for all regional patients and escorts; in addition to implementing relevant policies, evaluating activities and staff to facilitate safe, efficient and economic transfer of residents from the region to medical centres and boarding homes within and outside the territory as required. This position ensures accurate data entry of medical travel information into the government’s information systems, facilitates all aspects of regional medical travel to emergency and scheduled medical appointments to various referral points inside and outside the region, continually evaluate medical travel processes, and ensure the timely entry of complete and accurate medical travel information to aide in timely processing of payments to associated airlines, hotels, and medical centres.
Key responsibilities of the Medical Travel Supervisor include coordinating the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of the activities of the regional Medical Travel Unit to arrange for the transportation and accommodation of patients and escorts, investigating and resolving problems concerning travel and medical appointments, performing audits to ensure that required Medical Travel records are maintained, prepare bill back requests for medical travel clients who breach medical travel agreements, ensure Health Centres have confirmed travel itineraries for traveling clients and escorts and medical needs are considered in all arrangements.
Incumbent will manage the client travel data system by ensuring all information is properly recorded and forms are correctly completed, oversee and ensure timely data entry of client information and appointments, ensure codes are correct and entered for every travel transaction, including generating statistical reports as required. 3 positions report directly to the Medical Travel Supervisor: Medical Travel Specialist (2) and Patient Referral Clerk (1).
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a diploma in Business Administration or a related field. Two years’ related experience, including 1 year of supervisory experience. Experience using a travel booking software application is an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
