Company Description The BME Automated Drive Lab is an academic research group focused on highly automated and autonomous road vehicles across the full development spectrum. The lab connects academic and industrial expertise, as well as education and research, to accelerate the acceptance and deployment of self-driving technologies.
In addition to fundamental research, the team conducts applied projects, continuously developing real automated vehicles and functionalities for credible demonstrations. The lab’s work spans perception, decision and control, simulation and validation methods, redundant safety and cybersecurity architectures, and applications with major automotive partners.
Role Description The Member role is a full time, on-site position located in Mississauga, ON. In this role, the Member contributes to research and development activities related to automated and autonomous vehicles, supporting projects across perception, decision-control, simulation, validation, and safety architectures.
Typical tasks include designing and implementing algorithms, conducting simulations and experiments, analyzing data, and documenting research findings. The Member collaborates with other researchers, industry partners, and students, participates in lab meetings, and assists in preparing technical reports, publications, and demonstrations of automated vehicle functionalities. Depending on experience, the Member may also help with testing on real vehicles, maintaining experimental setups,
and supporting educational activities in the lab.
Qualifications
- Strong background in automated or autonomous vehicle systems, robotics, control engineering, computer science, or a closely related field.
- Experience with perception-related topics such as object detection, deep learning-based perception, and sensor fusion for automotive or robotic applications.
- Knowledge of decision and control methods, including trajectory planning, path following, vehicle dynamics, and low-level actuator control.
- Familiarity with simulation, testing, and validation approaches (e.g., co-simulation environments, Vehicle-in-the-Loop, Scenario-in-the-Loop frameworks).
- Understanding of safety, redundant architectures, and cybersecurity considerations for automated vehicle platforms.
- Proficiency in programming languages and tools commonly used in R&D; (such as Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, ROS, or similar frameworks).
- Ability to design experiments, analyze measurement data, and communicate results clearly in written and verbal form.
- Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and in an on-site laboratory environment.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline; advanced degrees are considered an asset.
- Prior experience in automotive, robotics, or intelligent transportation systems, and familiarity with industry collaborations, is beneficial.
