This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary Under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor (Painter-Utility), this position prepares and paints a variety of surfaces.

Duties & Responsibilities

Prepares, repairs and paints a wide variety of buildings, structures, fixtures, furniture, equipment, etc., by hand or mechanized equipment using paints, epoxies, rubberized coatings, stains and other protective/decorative finishes.

Plan and complete assigned work using work orders and maintenance schedules, including preventative maintenance activities for buildings and facilities.

Determine material quantities; prepare labour and material cost estimates; requisition/order supplies for painting projects; and maintain stock of tools, equipment, and materials.

Operates and transports tools, materials, equipment, and personnel to and from work sites using City of Saskatoon vehicles and equipment, in accordance with fleet and safety policies.

Supports and promotes employee health and safety by ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, the City of Saskatoon’s administrative OH&S; policies and programs, hazard assessments, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Performs other related duties, including non-trade duties or cross-functional tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications Education, Training and Experience Requirements

Grade 12 education.

Five (5)



years of current non-journeyperson experience in the painting and decorating trade in the commercial building construction or industrial plant field.

Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.

Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Thorough knowledge of standard painting and decorating methods, materials, and equipment, including the properties of paints, lacquers, and other protective/decorative finishes.

Ability to mix, blend, and match paints/finishes to obtain the desired colour and texture, including matching existing shades and using correct proportions and additives.

Skill in surface preparation and application techniques (including specialty coatings such as epoxies and rubberized paints for pools) to achieve required thickness, smoothness, and overall finish quality.

Skill in the protected and effective use of trade tools and equipment, including hand/mechanical applicators and spray machines, with the dexterity needed for trim work.

Ability to interpret blueprints and specifications while planning and organizing work, preparing painting cost estimates, and maintaining accurate records of labour, materials, and equipment.

Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work, execute assigned work orders, and accurately document labour, materials, and deficiencies using a CMMS/SAP.

Ability to work safely with minimal supervision; follow oral and written instructions; maintain effective working relationships; adapt to changing tasks; and meet the physical demands of the work (lifting, varied positions,



ladders/scaffolds, and exposure to fumes/mists/dust).

Knowledge of and ability to comply with Occupational Health & Safety legislation, City OH&S; programs, hazard assessments, and PPE requirements.

Demonstrated skill in the use of the tools and techniques related to drywall applications would be an asset.

Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

Requires Security Check Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.

Additional Requirements Shift work and weekend work may be involved.

Salary Range: $30.79to$33.94CAD per hour (2026rates)
