About the Team & Role

At eBay, the Data Platform Engineering group designs and scales innovative infrastructure and analytics solutions that power robust data flows, real-time insights, and inventory mapping globally. The team builds and maintains large-scale systems supporting high-volume data acquisition, transformation, and reporting, driving platform reliability and supporting business decision-making across regions. This role is in Global Focus Categories organization responsible for Focus categories growth with data insights and analytics.

Responsibilities:

- Solve distributed systems challenges in exactly-once processing, fault tolerance, scalability, online/offline consistency,



and high-throughput processing.
- Support capacity planning, performance optimization, and cost efficiency for distributed systems.
- Design and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for a range of data sources, enabling inventory mapping, enrichment, and transformation.
- Participate in design reviews, mentor engineers, and raise the bar for distributed systems engineering.
- Eliminate architectural debt, scalability bottlenecks, and reliability gaps through platform modernization.
- Improve observability, alerting, incident response, and operational excellence for critical platform services.
- Develop reusable frameworks, runtimes, and self-service tooling for distributed platforms.
- Collaborate globally across engineering, product, and teams (India, US, China, Europe) to deliver impactful platform features and ensure alignment on technical best practices.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support production systems.

Qualifications:

- Proven experience designing and operating high-throughput, low-latency, production-grade distributed services.
- Experience designing clean interfaces, backward-compatible migrations, and safe rollout strategies.
- Robust technical leadership, communication, mentorship, and cross-functional influence.
- Ability to make sound architectural trade-offs across correctness, reliability, performance, operability, and cost.

Preferred Experience:

- Hands-on expertise with Kafka, Flink, Spark and RDBMS/NoSQL.
- Strong background in serverless computing and event-driven architectures
- Experience in AWS, including services such as Lambda, Cognito, EKS, OpenSearch, Kinesis, S3, SNS, and SQS
- Strong experience with Databricks,



including building and operating scalable batch and streaming data pipelines.
- Experience designing clean interfaces, backward-compatible migrations, and safe rollout strategies.
- Experience operating production systems, including observability, performance tuning, incident response, debugging, and on-call ownership.
