Department: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit

As part of the multidisciplinary team within the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program the Youth worker provide crisis stabilization, assessment, and treatment for clients and their families who experience psychiatric, social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems. The Child and Youth worker supports in the development of safety plans, develops and takes part in therapeutic activities, running both individual and group for youth and parents.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

- Successful completion of a Child and Youth Worker Diploma from an accredited community college required
- Registered with the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
- Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an asset
- Minimum two (2) years experience in the field of mental health is an asset
- Knowledge/experience in mental health and withdrawal management is an asset
- Knowledge and experience in crisis assessment and safety planning
- Experience with running and leading groups with youth and parents.

Skills/Abilities:

- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required
- Able to work independently in a team setting required
- Ability to function with minimal supervision




- Demonstrated computer application experience required
- Good attendance and work record required
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
