POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the direct the supervision of the Manager of nikikoskamik, and general supervision of the Director of Housing, the
Residence Support Workerprovides trauma-informed, harm-reductive, and culturally safe support to youth residing in the residence and supports them to navigate housing, education, employment, wellness, and cultural goals. The residence support worker will support the team and the youth in developing individualized, strength-based plans that promote independence and belonging.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Resident Support and Continuity of Care (70%)
- Provide all care, advocacy, counselling and listening from a trauma informed care lens.
- Build therapeutic relationships with all residents.
- Actively work towards developing familiarity with Indigenous cultural traditions and engagement with cultural
communities.
- Provide practical support for all aspects of resident stays and goals.
- Ensure the well-being of all residents by maintaining a clean facility.
- Provide information, education, referrals and support to the residents as needed
- Collaborate with the other staff to create individualized plans for each resident and family
- Provide referrals and advocacy to ensure that residents have necessary supports to deal with barriers regarding
housing
- Establish/ maintain positive relationships with the Ministry of Social Services and other community service providers
- Support individuals and families in preparing for their move into housing including helping them to arrange utility
hook ups, financial planning, food planning, locating furnishings, community mapping and developing a housing preservation plan to reduce the risk of future homelessness.
Administration (30%)
- Maintain detailed and accurate electronic case files in accordance with YWCA and MSS documentation standards.
- Answer residence phone and record all calls, screen requests for entry and respond to information requests
- Follow a consistent case management process, including:
- Intake and assessment (strengths-based)
- Individualized goal planning
- Regular progress reviews and updates
- Transition and aftercare planning
- Participate in monthly staff meetings
- Ensure confidentiality, data security, and adherence to YWCA’s privacy policies.
- Support continuous program evaluation and improvement efforts through reflective practice and feedback collection.
- Assist with the daily operations of the residence including but not limited to the sorting of donations, cleaning, sorting
and upkeep of toys, and assisting with inventory.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Child and Youth Care, Justice Studies, OR a related field, OR an equivalent
combination of education and experience.
- Basic First Aid/CPR.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience providing case management or direct support to youth or young adults with complex
needs is preferred;
- Experience working with Indigenous youth and communities; cultural humility and respect are essential.
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and youth development frameworks.
- Experience maintaining electronic records and using case management databases (HIFIS or similar).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of Ministry of Social Services processes, youth housing systems, and community resources is an asset.
- Robust communication, organization, and crisis intervention skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Criminal record check with vulnerable sector is required.
- Class 5 driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work Location: Onsite at 2817 12th Avenue, Regina SK S4T 4Y9.
- Physical Demands: Typical work environment with standard physical requirements, including extended periods of
standing to support participants’ and activities in the house. Some lifting or walking for extended period of times may be required.
- Schedule: 16 hours per week (1pm - 9pm Saturdays and Sundays)
- Pre-Employment: A criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check where applicable, may be required
following a conditional offer of employment. Results will be assessed in relation to the duties of the role and will not automatically disqualify candidates.
