Position Overview The Nisga'a Language and Culture Learning Support Teacher works alongside the Nisga'a Language and Culture Teacher to support the delivery of Nisga'a language and cultural programming while providing targeted academic and cultural learning support for secondary students.

This position plays an important role in strengthening student engagement, cultural identity, language acquisition, and academic achievement through collaboration with students, staff, families, Elders, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities





- Collaborate with the Nisga'a Language and Culture Teacher in the planning, implementation, and assessment of Nisga'a language and cultural programming.
- Provide individual and small-group support to students requiring additional assistance in language learning and cultural education.
- Support the integration of Nisga'a language, history, culture, and Ayuukhl Nisga'a throughout the secondary school workplace.
- Assist in the development and adaptation of culturally relevant learning resources and instructional materials.
- Support and facilitate cultural activities, community events, ceremonies, land-based learning experiences, and special projects.
- Foster positive relationships that enhance student belonging, confidence, leadership, and cultural pride.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate Indigenous perspectives and culturally responsive practices across curriculum areas.
- Participate in school-based teams and contribute to student support planning and interventions.
- Maintain effective communication with families, school staff, Elders, and community partners.
- Support initiatives related to language revitalization and cultural sustainability within the District.

Required Qualifications

- Valid British Columbia Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification.




- Bachelor of Education or equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Nisga'a language, culture, history, traditions, and Ayuukhl Nisga'a.
- Experience working with Indigenous students, families, and communities.
- Knowledge of inclusive education, differentiated instruction, and trauma-informed practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
- Commitment to Indigenous student success and cultural revitalization.

Preferred Qualifications

- Fluency or strong proficiency in the Nisga'a language.
- Experience teaching or supporting secondary-aged students.
- Training or coursework in Indigenous Education, language revitalization, cultural programming, or special education.
- Experience developing culturally responsive curriculum and learning resources.
- Knowledge of BC secondary curriculum and graduation requirements.
