As an integral member of our interdisciplinary care team, the Occupational Therapist will play a key role in supporting residents’ functional abilities, safety, and overall quality of life. The incumbent will:

- Perform comprehensive assessments and develop, implement and evaluate individualized treatment plans for residents
- Document all treatment and intervention plans in Point Click Care (PCC) and Point of Care (POC) using interRAI LTCF
- Assess, recommend and provide adaptive equipment as required (e.g., wheelchairs, seating, orthotics/splinting and assistive devices)
- Assess residents requiring mobility aids for seating/positioning and complete Assistive Devices Program (ADP) applications
- Assess and provide therapeutic surfaces and pressure relieving devices to support wound management and prevention
- Utilize ActivityPro as a documentation tool to track OT programming and evaluate Therapeutic Dining Programs
- Provide staff training and education related to lift and transfer techniques, safe resident handling, therapeutic surfaces, seating for wound management, least restraint practices, orientation, and more
- Complete Cognitive Competency Tests to assess residents’ cognitive abilities and their potential for participation in daily functional activities
- Maintain current information and databases related to mobility aids and vendors
- Develop, evaluate and facilitate small group programs (e.g. cognitive groups, fine motor groups, etc.), ensuring program descriptions are developed and kept up to date
- Use a variety of therapeutic modalities to promote independence in daily activities such as eating, dressing and mobility




- Liaise with family members to support understanding of residents’ ongoing therapy needs

The successful applicant will have:

- A degree in Occupational Therapy, along with registration in valuable standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- ADP (Assistive Devices Program) Authorizer status from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care; those who are eligible to apply for ADP Authorizer status may also be considered and would be required to obtain it in advance of their start date as a condition of employment
- A couple of years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, preferably in a long term care or geriatric setting
- Solid knowledge of occupational therapy assessment techniques, therapeutic modalities, and clinical applications
- Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills, with a resident-centred approach
- The ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary resident care team
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and experience working with an electronic Health Care Record (eHCR)
- A demonstrated ability to provide high quality, equitable and accessible service, with a willingness to adapt programs to meet diverse needs
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, set priorities and consistently complete work with accuracy
- Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and/or the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (O.S.O.T.) would be considered assets

This position is with Salary Grade 9 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:
- Start: $55.63
- Six Month: $58.72
- Job: $61.81
