Position Description

The McGill University Department of Pediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (Clinical) and Director of the Division of Neonatal Medicine and Follow-Up. The successful candidate will be a full time member of the Contract Academic Staff and appointed as an academic clinician. The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The Montreal

Children's Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of McGill's major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada's internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH.

Our division's mission is to optimize the health & wellbeing of acutely ill newborns within the context of their families. We provide a complete range of tertiary clinical services which address the health needs of vulnerable infants with complex conditions, including: fetuses at risk identified prior to birth, extreme prematurity, infants with cardiovascular or neurological/neurosurgical conditions, or congenital anomalies.



Situated in a large university hospital complex adjacent to a busy and innovative high risk obstetrical service, the Neonatology service cares for both in-born and out-born infants, the latter transferred from an extensive network throughout Quebec and supported by our neonatal transport program.

The Division of Neonatal Medicine and Follow-Up is a clinically strong group, comprised of 14 neonatologists with various clinical, educational, and research interests and expertise. We have pioneering and productive research in quality improvement, hemodynamics, physiological monitoring and neonatal neurocritical care. In addition, our division is enriched by a longstanding Neonatal Follow-Up group consisting of four pediatricians with expertise in NICU graduates with special needs, and a group of associate pediatricians who contribute to the ongoing care of neonates in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

We have excellent clinical programs including antenatal diagnosis, consultation and treatment, neonatal transport, outreach education, physiological monitoring, neonatal hemodynamics and neonatal neuro critical care. We train both physicians and neonatal nurse practitioners. In addition to rotating general pediatric residents, we have an active residency training program in neonatal-perinatal medicine and four neonatal fellowship programs.





We also have medical students rotating for selective and elective rotations in the unit. Division members have extensive involvement in teaching at various levels and are involved in diverse scholarly activities at the hospital and the university as well as nationally and internationally. Our cohesive team is dedicated to clinical excellence, teaching, research and innovation.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to lead the Division in its clinical and academic missions in addition to contributing as a member of the Division of Neonatal Medicine and Follow-up.

Specific responsibilities of the Division Director include:

- fostering the professional development of pediatric neonatal medicine and follow up team members;
- ensuring excellence in clinical care delivery;
- ensuring delivery of the academic mission, including promoting research and providing a safe learning environment; and,
- representing the Division of Neonatal Medicine and Follow-up at the level of the Department of Pediatrics.

Administrative duties as Division Director are expected to require approximately 25% effort.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our interdisciplinary education mission, including the supervision and teaching of neonatal nurse practitioner students, medical students, residents, and fellows. Other responsibilities may include participation in research and/or clinical innovation activities and on administrative committees.
